Supplies for US Southern Command’s Mission in Peru

Every year, the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) does a humanitarian aid mission they call “Resolute Sentinel.” This year, the mission will take place in Peru. SOUTHCOM will work alongside the local government, assisting several different communities with medical, emergency, and educational resources.

When supplies are requested, we get the opportunity to work with SOUTHCOM in providing needed resources for these communities. We have partnered with SOUTHCOM since 2013, serving Panama, Belize, the Dominican Republic, Columbia, Guatemala, Guyana, and now Peru.

This year, they asked us to provide school supplies as well as soccer balls. You may remember our push for school supplies for Student Kits towards the end of last year during our Kits for Kids Campaign. This was to increase our supply of Student Kits so we could send 5,600 Student Kits to be pre-staged with Food For The Poor, and 4,260 Student Kits that will be given to students in 68 schools in Caballococha, Peru.

Many students in countries around Latin America and the Caribbean will be blessed by the Kits you helped us provide. In February, the 5,600 Kits were sent to Food For The Poor to be pre-staged.

This week, the 4,260 Student Kits set aside for Peru were shipped from the building! On Monday, March 18, we drove the requested Kits and soccer balls down to Scott Air Force Base outside of St. Louis, Missouri. The supplies will be flown to Caballococha, Peru the first week of April!

We are very thankful for everyone who donated supplies, Kits, and funds towards our Kits for Kids campaign. We couldn’t have supplied these Kits without you!

Kit Highlight: Feminine Hygiene Kit

Feminine Hygiene Kits include reusable items for girls to use monthly. Put simply, Feminine Hygiene Kits allow girls to stay in school. In some developing countries, if girls do not have what they need when they are menstruating, they have to stay home from school. After missing several days of school every month, many girls cannot finish school. This impacts their education, decreasing future opportunities for work, and limiting their chance to further their education.

It is also very important for girls’ health. When their hygiene needs are met, they will be healthier, more confident, and empowered to continue striving for success in life.

The Feminine Hygiene Kit is a reminder of the privileges we have in the United States. Even though there is a cost to these hygiene products, we have access that many people in the world do not have.

You can help girls around the world have access to Feminine Hygiene Kits.

We are always in need of the Day Pads and Night Pads.

This week, we used up the last of the Night Pads we had. And, we have just a few more Day Pads. We can't make any more Feminine Hygiene Kits until we get more!

You can make them at home using our patterns — click here and scroll down to Feminine Hygiene Kit.

Prayers to Lift Up

This week, pray for our partners. They are always hard at work, finding and meeting the needs of the populations they serve. Pray for hope and peace in the midst of the chaos they are surrounded by.

" Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."
