For us, these items include transformers, fuses, meter bases, poles, and more. Lead times continue to stretch farther into the future, and some suppliers are responding by setting customer allocations limiting the quantities of items we are allowed to purchase. We expect these material shortages to last through 2022 and beyond.
What to Expect
REC is delaying some construction schedules to accommodate these extended material timelines. Please reach out to your REC representative if you have questions or would like an update about your project.
If you are considering future projects in REC’s service territory, please let us know right away. The sooner we can finalize service plans and their required materials, the sooner we can place supply orders.
What REC is Doing
REC started to address this issue in mid-2020 by proactively increasing inventory and carefully planning system projects and construction to conserve critical materials. Many of these materials were used during the historic Winter Storm Frida, which damaged more than 60% of REC’s infrastructure. REC and other electric power companies nationwide are reaching out to local, state, and federal policymakers to bring continued and heightened attention to this situation and to ask for assistance in addressing these challenges.
While those conversations are ongoing, all stakeholders realize that there is no immediate solution and that a resolution will take time, patience, and creativity. As REC works diligently to address supply chain shortages, we thank you for your continued patience. REC remains committed to our mission of affordable and reliable energy for all our members.
