Anchor Spotlight: Brown University


The institution is investing in research and life sciences, positioning themselves as a key tenant and user of lab-ready infrastructure developments in Providence. 

Rhode Island State Health Lab

Governor Daniel J. McKee announced that a 212,000-square-foot building will house both the public health lab, plus space that will be available for lease to life-sciences organizations. 


Brown University has signed a letter of intent with Ancora to lease 20,000 square feet of laboratory space in the building.

 

Brown President Christina H. Paxson said the university will continue to prioritize investments related to life sciences research and economic activity in the Jewelry District.

Wet Lab: Brown, Wexford Science & Technology LLC

To meet the growing demand for wet laboratory space in Providence, driven by an expanding array of life sciences activity, Wexford Science & Technology, LLC, will transform 62,000 square feet at its Point 225 building into highly sought-after wet lab-ready research space.

 

Brown University will lease approximately 31,000 square feet of the new lab space. The space is expected to deliver in late 2023. John Luipold, Brown’s vice president for real estate and strategic initiatives, said “For Brown, this new investment is an important demonstration of our commitment to the city and to ever greater innovation activity in the Jewelry District,” Luipold said.

Qualified Jobs Tax Credit Spotlight: REGENT

REGENT Craft Inc., relocated its HQ and future manufacturing operation from Massachusetts to Quonset Industrial Park through the Qualified Jobs Tax Credit incentive program committing to create at least 300 high-wage blue economy jobs along with significant investment. 


REGENT Craft Inc. designs and manufactures seagliders—all-electric, hydrofoiling, wing-in-ground-effect (WIG) vessels. Faster than a ferry and half the operating cost of a plane, the seaglider is a new mode of transportation that unlocks commercially-viable, zero-emission, regional transportation. The seaglider is considered a maritime vessel, and with confirmation from the USCG as well as the FAA, will be certified and regulated as a watercraft.

Blue Economy: The Moore Brothers

Moore Brothers Company relies on the accuracy of CNC technology, the experience of our team, and our solutions-focused methods to provide agile and repeatable solutions. Historically rooted in the marine industry, Moore Brothers also engineers and builds products in the aerospace, athletic, and medical fields. 


They have teamed with REGENT Craft Inc. to build the REGENT seaglider demonstrator which took flight this year. Additionally, the Navier 30 foiling electric power boat foiled on the foils we built, and the Argo MOD 70 set new race records using the new foils we supplied.

Located in Bristol, RI, they are building components and systems for a wide range of private, industrial, and commercial projects. 2022 has been a banner year for growth with a record number of projects moving through the shop, the team is expanding and filling out new floor space and building out new capabilities.

Supplier Spotlight: Flux Marine

Headquartered in Bristol, RI, Flux Marine is developing electric marine propulsion technology to deliver the world's best boating experiences.


The company is currently taking pre-orders for electric outboard motors and battery systems that deliver superior performance, while eliminating the CO2 emissions and pollution that plague gasoline and diesel-powered boats. The company recently moved into a renovated, 40,000-square-foot facility at a business park in Bristol, Rhode Island, that will serve as manufacturing, research and development, and office space. 


Austin Pruitt, Director of Projects & Strategy explains,As we were scaling up our company, we wanted to understand what would be the best way to grow into a globally impactful and influential business. We felt that Rhode Island, The Ocean State, would be a great home for us. Flux Marine is fortunate to have access to the resources and grants provided by Rhode Island as we grow our team of passionate tinkerers, create industry partnerships, and develop our technology. We are excited to leverage SupplyRI to expand our network of like-minded companies and individuals as we work to accelerate the pace of marine electrification.
