SB1097 - pupils; excused absences; mental health

Bill Summary: The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) is required to identify an absence due to the mental or behavioral health of a pupil as an excused absence. ADE is authorized to adopt guidelines and rules for determining what constitutes an absence due to the mental or behavioral health of a pupil.

SB1376 - schools; curriculum; mental health

Bill Summary: The State Board of Education must require that all health education instruction include mental health instruction. Mental health instruction may be included in a health course or another existing course and is required to incorporate the multiple dimensions of health by including mental health and the relationship of physical and mental health to enhance student understanding, social and emotional learning, and attitudes and behavior that promote health and well-being.
