Southwest Iowa Local Foods Summit held in Logan November 14

Last Friday was the third annual Southwest Iowa Local Foods Summit. This year's event was hosted in Logan by Center for Rural Affairs and Golden Hills. The Summit brings partners and supporters together to celebrate all the great local foods working happening across the region.

Bank stabilization webinar on December 11

Join Golden Hills for a free Streambank Stabilization Webinar on Thursday, December 11th from 10:30am-11:30am.

Many streambanks in western Iowa's deep loess soil region have severe to extreme streambank erosion. Bank stabilization is the process of restoring banks to a more natural condition. Learn about successful projects here in western Iowa and how you can restore streambanks on your property.

Speakers include John Thomas, former Hungry Canyons Alliance Program Director, and Adam Rupe with JEO Consulting Group.

2026 LoHi Trek registration opens December 15

Registration for the 2026 LoHi Trek, which will be April 8-12, will open at 5pm on Monday, December 15. Mark your calendars, as registration is limited and tickets will sell out!

New Loess Hills interpretive panels installed

Golden Hills partnered with the Friends Of The Loess Hills State Forest And Preparation Canyon State Park to design new interpretive panels that was recently installed at Preparation Canyon State Park and Loess Hills State Forest.

One panel describes the Preparation Table art project, which is located near the picnic shelter in the day use area of the state park. Another describes the Jones Creek Watershed project, which was one of the earliest watershed projects in the United States.

Take a scenic drive on the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway to see the new panels!
