President's Letter: Seeds of Change

So far, 2025 stands out as a year of many unknowns. Changes at the federal level, for example, make it unclear if and how funding for many housing, homelessness, and mental health programs will continue without interruption. What we do know is that the need for stable housing and mental health support still exists. Uncertainty, job losses, and other changes will likely lead to a higher need for both housing and services as more people experience life crises. Yet, amid these uncertain times, Pathway Homes remains focused on home.

In Her Own Words: Robin Hecht

I have been with Pathway Homes for 5 years. I grew up in New York, and about 50 years ago, my sister and I were in SoHo at an arts and crafts show, and I saw this little table that stood out. It had very sparkly, shiny earrings and pins, and I said to my sister, “I’ve never seen anything like this. Have you?” And she said, “No. Let’s ask him how he makes them,” thinking he would never tell us. Sure enough, he told us, and we went home that night and got the things we needed. My sister went home, and I was experimenting, and the next day I had a full set of button covers!

Save the Date: Summer of the Arts 2025

Summer of the Arts 2025 is right around the corner! Visit the Fairfax County Government Center through the month of July to celebrate the artistic achievements of people in our community living with and recovering from mental illnesses.

On July 16 there will be a gallery exhibition where guests will be able to purchase the art. Hear from our residents about their journeys with Pathway Homes and about what inspires them to create. One hundred percent of all artwork sold will go directly to the artist.

Pathway Homes receives $50K from Sentara Health for "Good Neighbor Fund"

Pathway Homes received a $50,000 grant from our friends at Sentara Health to support ongoing maintenance of Pathway Homes properties in Northern Virginia through our fund for maintenance and repairs. With over 500 residences, we rely on generous grants like these, along with the help of volunteers, to keep all properties in good repair— so they can feel like true homes for our consumers and not simply shelters.

Thank you for helping us make Home Sweet Homes

Amazon Awards Pathways $10K Grant for Mobile Outreach Project

In March, Pathway Homes received a $10,000 grant from Amazon to support our new mobile outreach unit set to launch as early as October 2025. This exciting project involves the purchase of a trailer with multiple showers to provide opportunities for unhoused individuals to attend to personal hygiene, as well as take advantage of additional case management resources, and to eventually obtain stable housing.

It was truly an honor to receive this award in March at Amazon’s headquarters in Arlington, VA. Pathway Homes extends our deepest appreciation for this gift!

Celebrating Our Volunteers

April was Global Volunteer Month, when nonprofit organizations around the world celebrate the contributions of the people behind the scenes, the volunteers who quietly donate their time and talents to ensure that so many worthy causes succeed. They do this only for the reward that comes from making a difference for somebody, somewhere. As the Points of Light organization puts it, "Volunteers make a real difference in their own backyards, causing a ripple effect around the world."

At Pathway Homes, we couldn’t agree more about the crucial role that volunteers play in the success of reaching our organization’s goals, which is why we wanted to highlight one of our longest-serving volunteers, Antoinette Allen who has expertly aided us for the last 4 years.

Chocolate Lovers Festival Award

In April, Pathway Homes received a grant from the Chocolate Lovers Festival. Thank you to the festival’s committee for selecting Pathway Homes as one of three beneficiaries chosen to receive proceeds from this year’s festival. The event was a great opportunity to raise awareness for the work of Pathway Homes while meeting other incredible community partners and sharing our mission of providing stable, supportive housing for those facing mental health challenges and homelessness.

Pathway Homes Gives Back at

JK Community Farm's Annual Plant-a-Thon

Pathway Homes employees used their annual volunteer leave to join JK Community Farm at their Annual "Plant-a- Thon" in May. The crops will be grown, harvested, and distributed to area food pantry partners, providing fresh, nutrient-dense meals to families in need. In just 2 hours, Pathways staff planted 1,700 produce seedlings. That equals 13,800 pounds of fresh produce come harvest time!
