SeniorLAW Center's 2023 Gala

Celebrating Resilience

Saturday, May 6, 2023

6pm - 10pm

Hilton Penn’s Landing

201 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd. | Philadelphia, PA

RESILIENCE. This is the theme of our 2023 gala, a time for us to come together for the first time in 4 years to celebrate that we have survived -- and yes, even thrived. Through a global pandemic, persistent racial injustice and disparities, economic hardships, the breathtaking loss of loved ones, and so much more. We have been through a lot together, and those we serve have endured even more -- older people have been the most vulnerable to the devastation of COVID, the most likely to suffer severe health consequences, and even the most likely to die. Through it all, our epic SeniorLAW Center team never wavered. Immediately transitioned to virtual services, hearings, education and systemic advocacy. Helped lead with partners transformational housing protections. Launched new programs to ensure basic human needs. Fought against abuse in later life and enhanced visibility and remedies. Protected voting rights. Continued to expand our diverse and talented team of nonprofit attorneys and advocates whose focus is not profit -- but justice.

We invite you to join us on May 6th as we honor our epic team, our courageous clients, and key partners and leaders in this work. The leadership of William J. Donohue, lead corporate attorney in climate change, who rode the subway to neighborhoods across Philadelphia to serve the legal needs of older tenants and grandparents in their homes and helped lead our organization, fostering great partnerships along the way. The volunteer efforts of corporate attorneys at Comcast enabled hundreds of low-income older people to plan for lives of dignity and independence, and promoted diversity, equity, and inclusion. The legacy of William P. Fedullo, great champion for kids and seniors, our former Board Chair, former Chancellor, Philadelphia Bar Association, who advocated for education and elder rights, great friend to so many, who left us much too soon. Hear their stories. Honor their legacy. Celebrate our resilience. Together.

SeniorLAW Center Staff

SeniorLAW Center’s dedicated staff truly embodies the identity of resilience during the pandemic, persistent racial injustice and upheaval, gun violence, and other crises of our times. Whether it was pivoting to remote work to serve our clients or dealing with heart-breaking challenges stemming from the pandemic, advocating for voting, and housing protections, or ensuring older people had food, social supports, heat, medicine, and basic necessities, the staff’s commitment to our critical mission was and remains inspiring. Their hard work fighting and advocating for justice for older people ended the devastation of financial and physical abuse, prevented homelessness during a national housing crisis, preserved autonomy for isolated and voiceless seniors, enabled grandparents’ rights to raise grandchildren at risk, and resolved many other serious challenges facing older individuals with creativity, innovation, and grit. We are honored to award our esteemed staff with the SeniorLAW Center Champion for Justice Award. Meet our extraordinary STAFF – SeniorLAW Center.
