Supporting Local Businesses during COVID-19

We are thankful to our local farms and food business that continue to supply us with locally grown and prepared foods. If you are looking for ways to support local businesses and your community at this time, here are a few helpful tips to get you started and keep you and business owners/staff safe.

  • Continuously check updates and recommendations from Guelph Wellington Dufferin Public Health.
  • Always stay safe – wash your hands with soap and/or use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid crowds, choose online /phone pre-ordering options, opt for delivery or curb-side pick-up whenever possible and follow instructions outlined by business owners.
  • Always check before going - many businesses regularly update information regarding hours and purchasing arrangements on their social media pages.
  • Check with family, friends, and neighbours who are in self-isolation or cannot safely leave their homes in case they need anything.
  • All eat-in establishments are closed but many still offer take out or delivery options.
  • Purchase gift cards from local businesses to be used once the situation clears up.
  • Tap-rooms at local breweries, distilleries and cideries are closed but bottle shops remain open, some offer delivery.
  • The Guelph Farmers’ Market remains closed until April 30 - find a list of vendors here – some are offering alternative retail options.
  • Consider donating to emergency food suppliers to help families in need. Please note some are only accepting financial donations at this point – check directly with individual organizations.
  • Upgrade your food skills while stuck at home. For inspiration, check online, go through your stack of cookbooks or check out local entrepreneur Natalina’s Kitchen's online classes that will introduce you to authentic Italian cooking.
  • Get your kids involved in cooking and stay tuned for FAN/JOY's Junior Chef Updates on Facebook Live.
  • Start planning for summer and sign up for a CSA farm share – find a list of CSA farms here.
  • Explore summer farm and food camps for kids. Check Everdale, FAN/JOY, Garnishes PCS and Reroot Farm for more information.

Thank you for supporting local Wellington County and Guelph businesses!
