New Effort Will Match $500,000 in Gifts for RSDM Scholarships

RSDM has been chosen as a recipient of the Chancellor's Challenge, which will provide $500,000 in matching funds for student scholarships during 2019. Dean Cecile A. Feldman emphasized the need. "Helping our students afford the high costs of dental school so they can pursue their passion for healing others is the most important thing we can ask of our supporters this year,'' said Dean Feldman. Newark Children Receive Fluoride Sealants on Give Kids a Smile Day

For the first time in the 17-year-history of Give Kids a Smile Day (GKAS), RSDM's Pediatric Department offered fluoride dental sealants for children who visited Friday. The day was a playful celebration that included tips on brushing and flossing, free dental screenings and flawlessly well-coordinated Cat in the Hat costumes worn by students, staff and faculty.  LEARN MORE

Dean Feldman Calls for Statewide Water Fluoridation

After a recent University of Alaska study revealed an increase in childhood dental decay in two cities that halted the use of fluoridated water, Dean Cecile A. Feldman stressed the importance of water fluoridation - and why it's imperative that New Jersey implement it statewide. In a Rutgers Today Q&A that was also featured on the website Medical Xpress, Dean Feldman described how fluoride in drinking water plays a key role in preventing dental disease. She also called for change in the Garden State, which has the second lowest rate of fluoridated water in the nation, after Hawaii. LEARN MORE

Fourth-year students celebrated the annual rite of passage known as Match Day by marking the spot where they'll be serving their post graduate residencies. Matched students stuck push pins in a colored map, symbolizing the state where they matched. LEARN MORE

Join us for TropiGala, RSDM's annual winter gala, on February 9 at The Venetian in Garfield. Cocktail hour begins at 7:30 p.m. with dinner and dancing to follow. The event will conclude at 12:30 a.m.
