Today, November 28th, is Giving Tuesday 2023!

Become a supporter of the Northeast-Midwest Institute by contributing today for Giving Tuesday 2023.

Celebrated every year on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday recognizes the critical work of non-profits and the generous philanthropy that makes their work possible.

The Northeast-Midwest Institute is a non-profit, bi-partisan policy education organization, and is among the hundreds of thousands of non-profits nation-wide whose work is celebrated each year on Giving Tuesday. We depend on the support of individuals like you.

As a friend of NEMWI, you know that our bipartisan policy education work is more essential today than ever.

Support Our Work

The year 2023 that is coming to a close has seen many successes at NEMWI:

  • Policy and legislative monitoring, including of Great Lakes policy and legislation, manufacturing policy and legislation, and the appropriations process, has served to alert stakeholders and others of the legislative policy-making process at a critical time.
  • Primer and orientation programs for the hundreds of new Congressional staff in the 118th Congress has introduced them to Great Lakes and watershed conservation policy and challenges.
  • A national manufacturing policy initiative with expanded membership and visibility, in partnership with the American Manufacturing Communities Collaborative, has broken new ground in building a national network and highlighting the need for urgent progress in this vital policy area.
  • A study of conservation program effectiveness that focused on watersheds in the midwest continues to be presented to key Congressmen and Senators.
  • A senior research fellows program has engaged experts in critical policy areas, including innovative research, most notably on infrastructure, clean energy, and public capital investment.
  • An expanded intern program now includes interns from Brown University, Dartmouth College, the University of Michigan, and the Washington Internship Institute,  producing valuable scorecards evaluating state environmental policies and an expanded NEMWI social media initiative.

Here's an opportunity for you to step forward and help the region by supporting the Northeast-Midwest Institute! Our agenda of major regional issues for the 2024 year ahead includes:

  • Environmental policy-making opportunities and threats that are increasingly critical.
  • The Great Lakes, their protection and restoration, and Great Lakes economic issues at a time of great fiscal challenge.
  • Infrastructure spending that is essential for regional development.
  • National manufacturing policy that is the foundation for long-term economic growth.
  • Clean energy policy, including off-shore wind energy and solar energy.
  • Fiscal issues, including monitoring federal spending and potential spending cuts affecting the region.
