Dear Friends,
As the Executive Director of the Kansas City Shepherd’s Center (KCSC), I am reaching out to share why we are enthusiastically endorsing Jackson County Question One, a senior levy that will play a pivotal role in enriching the lives of seniors in our community. On behalf of KCSC, I encourage each of you to consider the profound impact this vote will have on the health, independence and well-being of older adults across our county.
What is County Question One?
County Question One proposes a modest levy to establish dedicated funds specifically for senior services—and it would cost the average household less than $20 per year. These funds will support essential programs that make a real difference in seniors’ lives, including:
-
Meals on Wheels and nutritional support: Expanding critical food programs to reach more seniors, ensuring they have access to regular, nutritious meals.
-
In-home and community-based services: Strengthening programs that allow seniors to remain safely in their homes while staying engaged in community activities.
-
Caregiver support: Providing training, resources, and respite for family caregivers, who play an essential role in the lives of many seniors.
-
Senior transportation and mobility services: Helping seniors maintain independence by connecting them to resources, reducing isolation, and supporting their ability to stay active in the community.
At KCSC, we know seniors count—and we hope you do too. Over the past year, we have worked in coalition of more than 50 aging agencies in our region to find a sustainable funding solution for these crucial programs. This levy represents a shared commitment to permanent funding and support for seniors. CLICK HERE to read up on this initiative.
Please remember to vote YES on County Question One and encourage friends and neighbors to do the same. A brighter future for our seniors is just one vote away!
Warm regards,
Janet Baker
