Invest in the Future of

Sexual and Reproductive Health

UCLA Blue & Gold Challenge | October 26–31, 2026

Dear UCLA Bixby Alumni, Stakeholders, and Community,

Many of us remember what it was like to be graduate students interested in a career in sexual and reproductive health (SRH), piecing together funding, seeking meaningful research experience, finding mentors, and looking for opportunities to put our education into practice. We also remember the people who helped open doors along the way.

For many in our community, these challenges haven't disappeared. Faculty, researchers, and practitioners continue to navigate limited resources and an increasingly complex environment for SRH research, policy, and practice.

At the UCLA Bixby Center, we're working to address these challenges together by creating opportunities for students, supporting innovative faculty research, connecting experts and partners to share knowledge, and building partnerships that improve SRH in communities locally and globally.

This week (Oct. 26-31), we're joining Bruins across UCLA for the 15th annual Blue & Gold Challenge fundraising effort.

We invite you to be part of what's next. Whether you give $5, $50, or $5,000, your support sends a powerful message to our students, faculty, and partners: their work matters, and there's a community behind them.

See Your Impact in Action

Through our three pillars: Train & Educate, Connect & Collaborate, and Innovative Research & Practice, the Bixby community is translating knowledge into meaningful impact.

Read on to learn more about how Bixby is impacting SRH today.

Advancing Research Through the GRO Program

Our new Graduate Research Opportunity (GRO) Program supports both emerging researchers and faculty mentors by funding hands-on student research experiences and fostering meaningful collaborations. From reproductive health practices in perinatal care to family leave policies and health outcomes, GRO students are contributing to faculty-mentored projects addressing pressing public health challenges.

“GRO represents a critical investment in actionable, community-centered research. By supporting investigation into how Asian immigrant women navigate, and are often excluded from, US family leave policies, we are not just advancing academic scholarship, we are shining a light on structural inequities in workplaces and communities.”

Bringing Public Health Education into Communities

Bixby Certificate students Samantha Espinoza and Erick Perez put their training into practice through Applied Practice Experiences (APEx), supporting SRH education and community outreach.

Connecting Expertise to Advance Reproductive Health Equity

Bixby strengthens connections and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration through a network of 37 faculty affiliates spanning 15 departments across four UCLA schools. We connect researchers, faculty, and practitioners to share critical information on funding opportunities, emerging research, and policy developments. With our work through ReGEN, these efforts build a connected, informed, and collaborative SRH community across UCLA.

Shape What's Next

Whether you're reflecting on the opportunities that shaped your career or navigating today's challenges in research, education, and practice, you know how much it matters to have a community behind you.

With additional support, Bixby can expand student training and mentorship, provide seed funding for innovative research, and strengthen the networks and collaborations that help our community move important work forward.

A gift of any size is a vote of confidence in the students, faculty, researchers, practitioners and partners critical to driving progress in SRH today and tomorrow.

Support Bixby by sharing our Blue & Gold Challenge with your networks.
