Support the Samaritas Crisis Care Fund
Every Dollar Donated Will Help Us Fight COVID-19
Samaritas needs you to help our community through the COVID-19 pandemic. We are focused on keeping our staff and seniors, families, and individuals safe right now even as we face $3.8 Million in lost revenue and COVID-19 related expenses. The need for Samaritas programs will only grow in the coming weeks and months. More families will suffer from economic instability. The need for affordable living, homeless shelter, children and family services with families in crisis is going up. We expect an increased need for foster families and services as CPS cases rise and a higher demand for substance use disorder and behavioral health services. As a key leader in health and human services in Michigan we need to be ready for these challenges ahead. We can with your support. Please make your gift to samaritas.org/COVID-19-Crisis-Fund today.

Foster Care Awareness Month
May 1st is Four Days Away!
There are nearly 13,000 children in Michigan’s foster care system who need loving guardians to take care of them.

There aren’t enough to help, but you can change that by helping us raise awareness of the need.

In May, during National Foster Care awareness month, show your support for Samaritas , Michigan’s largest foster care provider, with any of the social media activities listed below...

Purchase the official #ItTakesAPurpleVillage window sticker, where $5 dollars of every purchase will be donated back to the Samaritas Foster Care program!!
We are also asking families to share their “Foster Parent Fail” stories with us so we can share them on our social media -because you don’t have to be perfect to be a perfectly wonderful foster parent!

Remember...

#ItTakesAPurpleVillage
to raise a foster child.

To enter this contest, draw a photo of your family with chalk, upload it to any social media platform like Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #ChalkItUpToSamaritas.

On May 7, we'll post the entries on the Samaritas Foster Care Facebook page and will let you vote on your favorite!

The winning entry will get a $125 gift card to Amazon.
2020 Tax Tips You Need to Kno w
CARES Act Now Offers More Deduction Options
Did you know that through the CARES Act individuals who take the standard deduction on their tax return (non-itemizers)  can contribute up to $300 cash to Samaritas and claim a new “above-the-line” deduction on their 2020 taxes?

Previously, there was no charitable contribution tax deduction available for taxpayers who did not itemize deductions.

Also, Individuals who do itemize their deductions can deduct up to 100% of their adjusted gross income (AGI) for cash contributions to most 501(c)(3) organizations for 2020. The deduction was previously capped at 60% of AGI for cash. To learn more about contributing money to Samaritas, please contact DeeDee McVety at dmcve@samaritas.org .
In honor of Volunteer Appreciation Month and we say thank all our Samaritas volunteers and community partners for your irreplaceable impact and dedication to our mission. Our Ripple of positive transformation continues to spread with the help and support of thousands of Samaritas volunteers and for that we Thank You!
