Giving Tuesday
-How to Get Involved-
Dear Friend,

Did you know Hunger Free Holidays has begun? During this campaign, we work hard fundraising for our Food Programs at The Caring Place. Our Food Pantry supplements households with $200-$400 worth of groceries each month on average. When the budget is tight or a crisis arises, these savings bring relief to our neighbors during a difficult season.

One of the ways we fundraise for our Food Pantry is by encouraging the use of the Little Blue Barrel or your own version of a monetary Food Drive. Taking monetary donations for our Food Pantry ensures we have the space for food when we order it, that we can purchase when we need it, and that we get the best prices. In other words, when we order food, we get the most bang for the buck! We can also use these funds for food all year long.

November isn't just filled with info about Hunger Free Holidays though. The introduction of this month reminds us that "Giving Tuesday" is near. Giving Tuesday is on Tuesday, November 29th. It is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. Each year, we find our own community is full of committed givers and we invite you to give to The Caring Place on that date or anytime during the holiday season. Your gifts impact and are appreciated by all who come here. If you'd like to hear some of the stories of those you help with your support, head to our testimonials page on our website.

And as always, if you have any questions about how to give and support the work of The Caring Place, or you'd like me to come share information about The Caring Place with your organization, give me a call at 512-943-0702.

Happy Fall Y'all,

Providing a Safety
Net During a Crisis
In 2019, Connie received a breast cancer diagnosis. The diagnosis required a lot of research and help from her husband, Mike. If you’ve been through a cancer diagnosis, you can probably relate. There are many doctor’s appointments where you are told lots of information, and then you have to go home and research it all and make decisions about the best treatment. All the while, you are dealing with weakness and sickness. Mike's support was so important after the year they just shared tackling cancer. In 2020, the pandemic limited work options, especially for families with weakened immune systems. Connie couldn't work and Mike needed to work remotely so that he could be there for Connie. Options were limited. However, the year wasn’t done handing out catastrophic blows. Father’s Day weekend of 2021, Mike and Connie were cutting trees when Connie fell off a ladder. Mike, once again, was a caregiver. Connie could barely move to feed herself and certainly not drive. It felt like they were starting over at square one with health problems. Mike was a caregiver 24/7. Next, the couple was asked to move out of a family member’s home. They had to find a new place to live...

Update: Holiday Giving
in the Food Pantry
(Giving is Down)
Did you know in 2021 in the Food Pantry we raised over $90,000 in the last 3 months of the year alone? We call that Campaign time "Hunger Free Holidays." This year in 2022, during the same campaign, we have only reached $5,792. Can you help us get the rest of the way?

Are you interested in the impact we have made so far this year with food? January through September, we collected the following data:

  • 14,634 visits were made to the Food Pantry or remote distributions in Jarrell, Bartlett or Granger
  • We have distributed 681,838 pounds of food through The Caring Place Food Pantry and remote distribution.
  • The total value of food distributed is $1,718,232.

These are big numbers and reflect a need in our community. The money we raise during Hunger Free Holidays helps us fill our Food Pantry all year long. You can help us provide food to neighbors in need by making a gift today. Keep reading for more ways to support The Caring Place this season.

Families in Jarrell, Bartlett and Granger can also choose to utilize the Mobile Food Pantry instead on designated days.

Programs & Services: Our broader assistance offerings fall under this department at 2001 Railroad Avenue. Financial Assistance for those within our service area includes rent, mortgage, housing deposits, utilities, transportation and emergency dental and prescription assistance with verifiable proof of crisis. Our Staff
-We Are Hiring-
On October 31st, a few of our teams celebrated by dressing in some 80s fashion! We went with that theme this year because The Caring Place was established in 1985, so it surely aimed to be a caring decade in our community. When we think of the 80s, we always think of that handful of volunteers and churches who were determined to be there for neighbors in need during an economic downturn. Here we are in 2022 with the same mission, caring for neighbors in need by providing for basic needs.

Our Programs & Services team went one step further into the 80s and dressed up as Care Bears, each one representing the caring, neighborly, cheerful and friendly qualities of our team.

If working on a team that works hard to exemplify these character traits and celebrate our history as they serve in our community sounds like something special to you, please share our current job opportunities. We are currently hiring for a Case Manager in our Programs & Services department and a Warehouse Team Member in the Donations department. You can find more info at caringplacetx.org/jobs.
