Established in 2007 as a public, non-profit organization, the Latino Leadership Council seeks to advance cultural strength, leadership, and well-being within the Latino Community.

Anna came to the Latino Leadership Council (LLC) at a pivotal moment in her life. She and her children had experienced years of trauma due to domestic violence. Like many survivors, Anna felt isolated and uncertain of where to turn. Her fear of retaliation and the possibility of homelessness kept her from seeking help.
That changed when staff at her daughter’s school identified signs of emotional distress and referred her to LLC. With strength and determination, Anna made the courageous decision to reach out for support, a decision that marked the beginning of her healing journey.
Upon connecting with LLC, Anna quickly enrolled in our group support services and the Parent Project program. Through these culturally responsive and trauma-informed resources, she received emotional support, legal guidance, and practical tools that empowered her to take decisive action. With the assistance of her Promotor and LLC’s dedicated staff, Anna secured a restraining order, and began the legal process to protect her children through custody proceedings.
“LLC gave me my self-worth and confidence back,” Anna shared. “That’s when I truly felt my life begin to change. My children and I now live in a safe home, free from fear, and I continue to be actively involved in LLC’s programs. I highly recommend their services to anyone experiencing domestic violence and unsure of where to turn. They made all the difference in my life and my family’s.”
Anna's story is a reminder of the profound impact that accessible, culturally grounded support can have in transforming lives. We are honored to walk alongside her and are inspired by her continued resilience and growth.

This month, we’re proud to spotlight Nidia Russi, a dedicated Promotora and valued member of the Latino Leadership Council team. Nidia brings care, compassion, and cultural understanding to every interaction, with a special focus on supporting individuals and families navigating mental health challenges.
In addition to her Promotora role, Nidia is also one of the facilitators of Superación Personal, where she empowers participants to heal, grow, and build resilience in community. Her work is a powerful reflection of LLC’s mission to uplift and support Latino communities through culturally rooted services.
Nidia has been part of LLC for 17 years, a remarkable testament to her dedication and impact. Her efforts help connect community members to the care, resources, and encouragement they need to improve their well-being and quality of life.

| | Our 2nd annual youth-led community event, Día de Los Muertos, will be held in Roseville on November 1st & 2nd. The Latino Leadership Council will provide two days filled with opportunities to remember and honor our loved ones through cultural traditions. We will be hosting this two-day event on Saturday at Denio’s Farmers Market and Sunday at Vernon Street Town Square, alongside our media sponsor 102.5 KSFM. Our amazing promotores recently came together for a much-needed retreat—an opportunity to pause, reflect, and reconnect with one another. Held in a peaceful setting, the retreat offered space for personal growth, team-building, and wellness activities that recharged both heart and mind. Promotores are the heart of our work in the community, and this retreat recognized their dedication while also providing tools for self-care, renewed purpose, and collective strength.
We’re grateful for everything our Promotores do and proud to continue investing in their well-being as they uplift and empower others every day.
| | Youth Ambassadors Speak Up! | | Our Youth Ambassadors recently spoke before the Placer County Board of Supervisors to share their perspectives on the county’s Housing Action Plan. This plan outlines strategies to expand housing affordability, support diverse housing options, and address barriers to development throughout the region. By engaging directly with local leadership, our youth are helping ensure that community voices, especially those of younger generations, are included in conversations about housing and equity in Placer County. We’re proud of their advocacy and leadership. | | |
Interested in Strengthening Your Family Through the Parent Project?
Are you a parent navigating the challenges of raising children in a bicultural environment? The Parent Project is a 16-week course designed to support families like yours through practical tools, community connection, and meaningful growth.
Throughout the course, parents explore topics such as healthy communication, youth mental health, substance use, and gang prevention in a supportive, culturally informed setting. While parents learn, their children participate in parallel youth groups focused on leadership, self-esteem, and resilience.
Our next cohort will be offered virtually, making it even more accessible for families with busy schedules or transportation challenges.

| | Entre Amigos y Chiquillos | | |
From June 17–20, our youth from Entre Amigos y Chiquillos took part in the Sierra Native Alliance Youth Summer Camp at Camp Gold Hollow in Nevada City.
They spent four days camping, swimming, sharing meals, and participating in cultural activities like storytelling, traditional foods, and Native arts & crafts. It was a great chance to connect with nature, learn from one another, and take a break from everyday routines.

| | Love and appreciation were front and center at Mami y Yo as we gathered to celebrate Día del Padre! Families came together to honor the amazing fathers, father figures, and caregivers in our community with a fun-filled morning of bonding and creativity. From playful toddlers to proud papás, children created heartfelt crafts like handmade cards, decorated frames, and keepsake art to show their love. The celebration included story time, music, tasty snacks, and moments of connection, highlighting the guidance, strength, and warmth that fathers bring into their children’s lives every day. | | |

In the month of June, our Promotores continued to make a strong impact, as reflected by the encouraging feedback from clients who completed our voluntary closing surveys. These responses come directly from community members who completed services and chose to share their thoughts. Their input highlights the trust we’re building—and where we can continue to grow.
- 93% of respondents said they were satisfied with the support they received
- 7% selected a neutral response—neither satisfied nor dissatisfied
- 93% said they would recommend the program to a friend or family member
- 93% felt more confident navigating services after meeting with a Promotor/a
- 93% reported the program positively impacted their health and well-being

On Saturday, June 21st, the Latino Leadership Council was proud to take part in the 5th Annual Placer County Juneteenth Celebration at Johnson-Springview Park.
We hosted an outreach table and connected with community members while celebrating the theme of “Celebrating the Beloved Community.” The event featured local vendors, music by DJ Jordan Gonzales, family-friendly activities, food, art, and meaningful presentations. We’re grateful to have been part of this important day honoring Black history, resilience, and unity in Placer County.
