Client Impact

Two years ago, the Flores family was looking for hope and found the LLC.

The Flores family arrived in the US after walking for 4 months from Honduras. Upon arrival, things weren’t what the family thought they would be. Housing was a challenge as they went from a shelter, to a crowded multifamily situation, and even as far as facing homelessness. Their living situation made it increasingly challenging for the children who needed help with school placement and essentials.

Once connected to LLC, Promotora Kelita immediately began providing the family with much needed services. The family was connected to a primary care physician, mental health services, and medications. Furthermore, referrals to legal assistance and school placement were made.

Most recently, the parents received their work permits, allowing the mom to find a new job and improve their family’s income! The family shares their extreme gratitude for their Promotora Kelita and all the resources they were provided.

"Thank you very much Kelita, we would not be as happy without your help”

“Muchas gracias Kelita, no estuvieramos tan contentos sin su ayuda”

Meet Our Latest Board Member

Syrina Vasquez

Syrina graduated with her Master’s in Public Health in 2021, and currently works in Public Health as an Epidemiologist. She has a passion for using data to inform and improve community health and wellbeing. She is the product of a bicultural family with her father being Mexican and her mother being East Indian. Her first experience with the LLC was in 2021, when she interacted with the Promotores at a public health vaccine clinic, and witnessed how strongly the LLC advocated cared for the community. Fast forward to 2023, Syrina joined LLC's first cohort of "Leadership with Latinidad" Program, where she was immersed in learning leadership skills and hearing the experiences of several Latino/a leaders. After these experiences, Syrina was inspired and honored to have the opportunity to be part of the LLC.

“As a Latina, being on the board of the Latino Leadership Council is a privilege. The LLC has strong mission and values, and they work tirelessly to improve the health and wellbeing of the Latino community. I’m proud to be part of this organization and the opportunity to contribute in any way to the LLC’s community impact is an honor.”

Taller De Salud Del Suelo

On July 18th the LLC partnered with Placer Resource Conservation District to provide education to agricultural workers and community members to discuss how healthy soil is important for nutritious gardens and orchards. We had a great turnout and would like to also thank The Natural Trading Company for being great hosts and providing us with delicious freshly picked vegetables.
