Client Story

A Place Where My Voice Matters

When Brandon first connected with the Latino Leadership Council, he was adjusting to life in a new country. Like many young people navigating change, Brandon was looking for a place where he could feel heard, understood, and accepted.

Through LLC, he found exactly that. “LLC helped me find a place where a teenager’s voice can be heard, where my voice is validated, where I can be authentic, and where people don’t judge you,” Brandon shared.

Shortly after moving to the United States three years ago, Brandon also needed the required vaccines to enroll in school. With support and guidance from LLC, he was able to access the vaccines needed to continue his education without delay. This early support helped him not only stay on track academically but also build confidence as he adjusted to a new environment.

Over time, Brandon began volunteering at community events and supporting LLC programs. Through these experiences, he developed leadership skills and built meaningful connections within the community. Today, Brandon serves as a Youth Ambassador for the Latino Leadership Council, where he uses his voice and experiences to support other youth, help lead initiatives, and contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for others. Brandon now feels supported and empowered, knowing he has a community that listens, encourages growth, and walks alongside him.

Because of the support of our sponsors, youth like Brandon have a safe space to grow, be heard, and succeed, and become leaders who give back to their communities.

Impact Report

With all of your support, the Latino Leadership Council connected hundreds of Latino families to critical health, education, and youth development services this year.

In 2025, we received 854 referrals and provided 3,885 individual services, including support for seniors, adults, youth, group sessions, and health appointments.

Together, we are advancing the wellness and leadership capacity of Latino communities. Thank you for being part of the change.

Spay & Neuter

Thanks to funding from the Placer Community Foundation, we were able to help a local family cover the cost of spay and neuter services for their beloved dog. This assistance not only eased a financial burden but also promoted responsible pet ownership and helped prevent future unwanted litters.

Support like this creates a meaningful impact in our community by keeping pets healthy, reducing overpopulation, and ensuring animals remain safe and cared for in loving homes. Through this funding, we are able to continue supporting families while promoting the well-being of both pets and our community.

Seeking Breast Cancer Patients/Survivors for Study

The Health Equity Leadership, Science, and Community Lab (The LCC Lab), led by Dr. Luis Carvajal-Carmona, is recruiting Latina breast cancer patients and survivors for a study called Entendiéndonos/Understanding, which explores barriers and facilitators to genetic testing. The study involves a phone survey with a bilingual research team member, and eligible participants may be invited to an in-depth interview with a bilingual genetic counselor. Participants will receive gift cards for their time.

Eligibility: Hispanic/Latina, diagnosed within the past five years, ages 20–79, California residents at diagnosis, Spanish or English speakers.

Mami y Yo

Throughout the month, children in Mami y Yo meet on Tuesdays to develop early literacy skills during circle time, focusing on letter recognition, number identification, and writing their names. They also participated in shared reading activities each week, fostering language development and a love of books.

The group celebrated themed learning days, including Dental Health Day, Bird Day, and Polar Bear Day. Over the course of the month, children engaged in hands-on art projects such as paper plate teeth, cloud dough sensory play, paper plate birds with finger painting, and handprint polar bears, allowing them to explore creativity in a variety of ways.

Additionally, children learned about dental care through a presentation by Public Health, gaining an understanding of healthy habits in an engaging and age appropriate manner. Mami y Yo provided a month of enriching educational experiences, combining literacy, creativity, and meaningful themed activities.
