June 2025 Newsletter

Established in 2007 as a public, non-profit organization, the Latino Leadership Council seeks to advance cultural strength, leadership, and well-being within the Latino Community.

In this issue, we’re excited to share highlights from inspiring stories from those we serve, promotor highlight and attended events that continue to strengthen our impact across the region.

Client Impact Story

Jesus' Journey to Healing

Jesus came to the Latino Leadership Council (LLC) seeking support in his journey to heal from deep rooted childhood trauma. Like many in our community, he carried emotional burdens that impacted his daily life and personal growth.

With the guidance of his promotor, Jaime, and the support of the Mis Cuates men’s group, Jesus found a safe space to open up, learn, and rebuild. Through therapy and consistent encouragement, he developed healthy coping skills and tools to break cycles of self-sabotage.

Jesus shared, “The LLC has helped me with services to heal from my childhood trauma. My Promotor Jaime was supportive throughout the whole process. I learned many skills in therapy and attending Mis Cuates. I am able to build up my life without self-sabotaging.”

We’re incredibly proud of Jesus and honored to walk alongside him in his transformation. His story is a powerful reminder of the strength within our community and the hope that grows when culturally grounded support is within reach.

Promotor Highlight

This month, we’re proud to spotlight Jaime Diaz, a dedicated member of the Latino Leadership Council team. Jaime brings heart, commitment, and cultural understanding to every interaction, helping connect Latino families with the resources and support they need to thrive. His passion for serving the community reflects the very mission of LLC. Thank you, Jaime, for the impact you make every day!

Parent Project Auburn Graduation

We are honored to celebrate the recent graduates of the Parent Project, a 16-week course dedicated to supporting parents raising children in a bicultural environment. This milestone represents not only the completion of a comprehensive parenting curriculum but also a deep commitment to strengthening families, improving communication, and fostering resilience.

Throughout the course, parents explored complex topics such as healthy relationships, youth mental health, gang prevention, and substance use. While parents learned in a supportive environment, their children also participated in age-appropriate groups focused on leadership, personal growth, and overcoming challenges.

We’re proud to share words from two of our dedicated parents:

“I have participated in Parent Project two times during the different life stages of my children, and in each class, I have learned different tools to continue communicating better with my children.” — Maria
“We have brought all our children to these Parent Project classes. We, as a family, have learned how to better communicate with each other and find solutions for our family’s differences.” — Sara

We commend these families for their dedication, growth, and continued efforts to build stronger homes and communities. ¡Felicidades a todos los graduados!

Entre Amigos y Chiquillos

As part of our Entre Amigos program, the Latino Leadership Council hosted a fun and educational hands-on cooking session on May 22, led by our amazing nutritionist, Irene. Children had the opportunity to make their own mini pizzas using whole wheat English muffins, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and a colorful variety of fresh vegetables. Through this activity, participants learned about making healthy food choices and discovered how easy and fun it can be to prepare nutritious meals at home.

At LLC, we believe in teaching healthy habits early through culturally responsive and engaging activities. Moments like these empower our youth to make informed decisions and build a strong foundation for lifelong wellness.

Lincoln Mami y Yo

Love and gratitude filled the air at Mami y Yo as we came together to celebrate Día de las Madres! Families gathered to honor the incredible mothers and caregivers in our community with a joyful morning full of creativity and connection. From tiny babies to curious toddlers, children participated in heartfelt crafts, including handmade cards, flower art, and custom tote bags, all while sharing special moments with their loved ones. The celebration also featured story time, music, light refreshments, snacks, and plenty of smiles, highlighting the care, strength, and love that mothers bring to their families every day.

By The Numbers

In the month of May, we continued to receive encouraging feedback from community members served through our Promotores and Promotoras. The results reflect both the trust we’re building and areas where we can continue to grow:

  • 80% of respondents said they were satisfied with the support received
  • 20% selected a neutral response—neither satisfied nor dissatisfied
  • 100% said they would recommend the program to a friend or family member
  • 100% felt more confident navigating services after meeting with a Promotor/a
  • 100% reported the program positively impacted their health and well-being

“Kelita helped me in a very difficult moment. She was kind and acted quickly—I'm extremely happy with her support.”

“Excellent work—very professional and I’m extremely grateful.”

“A great program. Thank you to Promotora Lissett for helping with my rent.”

These results affirm the heart of LLC’s mission: building culturally rooted trust, offering compassionate care, and ensuring every Latino family feels seen, supported, and connected.

Please note: These responses represent only the clients who chose to opt in and complete a closing survey. This data is not comprehensive of all individuals served.

Attended Events & Resource Fairs

On May 17th, the Latino Leadership Council proudly attended the Latino Symposium in Sacramento, an important gathering that brought together community leaders, advocates, and mental health professionals dedicated to advancing culturally responsive healing and mental wellness within the Latino community. The event provided a valuable platform to share knowledge, exchange best practices, and explore innovative approaches to empower individuals and families facing mental health challenges. Through workshops, panel discussions, and collaborative sessions, attendees deepened their understanding of the unique cultural factors impacting mental health and strengthened their commitment to fostering inclusive, compassionate support systems that honor Latino heritage and experiences.

On May 21st, The Latino Leadership Council recently had the honor of participating in the “Conoce Tus Derechos” Resource Fair at the Mexican Consulate of Sacramento. This event provided community members with valuable information about their legal rights, along with access to a variety of local resources and support services.

Attendees took part in informative sessions and connected with organizations focused on legal aid, health, education, and family services. It was an opportunity to address important questions and share tools that help individuals navigate challenges with confidence. We’re grateful to have been part of this collaborative effort and remain committed to supporting the knowledge, access, and equity our community deserves.

The Latino Leadership Council attended the Fundraising Con Ganas Conference in Oxnard, CA, a transformative gathering built specifically for small to mid-sized Latinx-focused nonprofits. Unlike traditional conferences, Con Ganas offers culturally relevant, accessible training designed to help organizations like ours build sustainable fundraising strategies, with limited budgets, but big community impact.

Alongside other nonprofit leaders and board members, we gained practical tools, ongoing support through Somos El Poder, and a renewed vision for what fundraising can look like when it’s grounded in cultura, collaboration, and purpose. ¡Sí se puede!

This past Saturday, the Latino Leadership Council proudly joined Sacramento Republic FC’s Community Nonprofit Mixer, a fantastic event that brought together local nonprofits to connect, collaborate, and explore partnership opportunities for the upcoming season. We’re excited to share that our Program Assistant, Isaac Hernandez won the VIP Package in the event raffle, a fun highlight that made the evening even more memorable! We look forward to building strong partnerships and making an even greater impact in the community alongside Sacramento Republic FC and other nonprofit leaders.
