Hello,

Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. This month, as we enjoy all the season has to offer—apple picking, school sports, festivals, and spooky activities—we are also reminded that October is
National Bullying Prevention Month: a time to reflect on what it means to be a good friend, and to look out for one another. This issue highlights the activities, people and resources that embody the Peabody PROMISE message: Choose Kindness. Every Time. Everyone.

So, grab your favorite fall treat, take a moment to listen to this inspiring song from Bruno Mars and share the newsletter with a friend today!

KINDNESS IN OUR SCHOOLS:

Stop Bullying Campaign. On October 14, all Peabody Public Schools will participate in wearing orange and doing activities that focus on the idea of “Be the Reason Someone Belongs” and empowering students to be upstanders rather than bystanders.

"Be The Reason Someone Belongs" is an
Anti-bullying Campaign from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Child Youth Violence Prevention Unit.

Thank you Welch Elementary School Principal Michelle Massa for initiating this district-wide activity!

"No Hate Tour" at PVMHS.
Thrills and chills filled the air as professional BMX rider Russell Summerville performed a back flip over Peabody Veterans Memorial High School Principal Brooke Randall during last month's "No Hate" bullying prevention and positive influence assembly.

The "No Hate Tour" is a free, national program that uses the excitement of extreme sports to speak with students about overcoming obstacles, respecting each other and following your dreams regardless of what others tell you.

“Someone somewhere on your path may not understand what you want to do with your life, but as long as what you’re doing is not hurting anyone, stick on your ride until your wheels fall off.”

Higgins Bullying Prevention Presentation. On Thursday, Oct. 1, Higgins Middle School welcomed author and speaker, Dennis Wise for a bullying prevention presentation with 6th-grade students.

Dennis’s program focused on promoting nonviolent and respectful responses to bullying and harassment while emphasizing the importance of fairness, dignity, inclusion, and treating others with respect. He used relatable examples from popular culture, literature, movies, television, and his own anti-bullying novel, "On Your Side", to help students connect with these important messages.

This presentation is one part of the ongoing efforts at Higgins to build a positive school culture, strengthen students’ ability to navigate conflict appropriately, and ensure that every student feels safe, respected, and that they belong in our school community.

KINDNESS IN OUR COMMUNITY:

October wouldn't be complete without a trip to our beloved BROOKSBY FARM. If you haven't already, bring the kiddos, and take the self-guided SPOOKLEY Storybook Walk- an inspiring tale about the square pumpkin who teaches us about accepting and appreciating the difference in all.

Shout-out to the wonderful and kind staff at Brooksby and Tillie's Farm for all their hard work that makes fall so much fun!

Come out and support our Peabody Cosmo families!

PVMHS Cosmotology students are holding a fundraiser to benefit two peers facing hardships. Strands of Strength will take place Nov. 9 from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the school and will offer beauty services, including a wash, cut and blow-dry for $45, a wash and blow-dry for $30, a mini facial for $40 and a short/clipper cut for $30. There will also be a bake sale and raffle.

All proceeds will be donated to two members of the cosmetology program.
