Supporting Citizens in
Mind, Body and Spirit
Thursday, July 9th
Arrival between 9:00-9:15
Car Parade starts promptly at 9:30

WHERE : Meet in the Cafe Parking Lot

DETAILS : All Day Citizens, Residential Citizens at home and families are welcome. We will form a car parade from the Cafe through retail, the enterprises and residential. On-campus folks will be outside waving signs, dancing and cheering for our friends who are "staying, safe at home". We will be maintaining social distance and wearing masks. Car windows may be rolled down but we ask that all participants stay in the car. Each family that attends will receive a "Brookwood Loves Me" sign to take home.

For those Citizens who live out of state, or too far to make the drive to Brookwood, we will be broadcasting the parade via FaceBook Live.

All that cheering and waving is going to make you hungry, so Chef Michael is offering a box lunch for $10: 1/2 Turkey Club Sandwich, Chips and Brownie. Call the cafe at 281-375-2400 to preorder (optional).

If you plan on dining in, it is highly recommended that you call the cafe to make reservations. Please note the box lunch is not available as a dine in option, however, Chef has an amazing new dish, Herb Grilled Salmon, in addition to his standard fare.

And last but not least, you can order a family meal (serves 4) to go. There are 3 meals to choose from for $45: Lemon Chicken, Mango Chicken or Mushroom and Chicken Crepes. Please call ahead to order.

We are so excited to see all our Brookwood friends!

Is your body hungry? Paul shared a decadent Cream of Mushroom Soup recipe that is sure to fill you up!
Cream of Mushroom Soup

3 8oz packages sliced fresh mushrooms, chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 Tbs butter, melted
1/2 cup flour
26 oz chicken broth or stock (good bone broth makes all the difference)
3 cups whipping cream
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp ground pepper
1 tsp dried Tarragon (optional)
Sauté chopped mushrooms & onions in butter over medium heat for 10 minutes or until tender. Add flour, cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Stir in broth & remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium. Cook 20 minutes or until thickened, stirring often. Makes 10 cups.

Praise is more exciting than your birthday.

And there's more to it than we often think. C.S. Lewis said this about praise: “I think we delight to praise what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment; it is its appointed consummation. It is not out of compliment that lovers keep on telling one another how beautiful they are; the delight is incomplete till it is expressed."

In other words, we praise God not just because it's the right thing to do but because praising God adds to our enjoyment of God. Praise is about bringing glory to God but it's also one of the main, true joys in life. For example, we praise God for His grace not because it's expected of us but because by praising His grace we experience and appreciate and savor His grace even more!

In Exodus 15, the Israelites pause to praise God after He rescued them from the Egyptians. They didn't have to. They were not required by law. But they wanted to! Praise is the natural response to a God who splits a sea to deliver you from oppression. Their experience of being rescued was only completed in their praise of God. It was consummated in their celebration of their rescuer.

That's what I invite you to today - to experience God in fresh ways through pausing to praise Him. And that's what God invites us to for eternity - to praise Him. Not the sitting-bored-on-clouds-playing-harps praise you see on greeting cards but the breathlessly-exciting-dancing-jubilant-celebration praise that you see in the Bible, in which you come to know God ever more intimately and come to be astounded by Him ever more viscerally.
