A Message from the All Souls Counseling Team

We hope this message finds you safe and surrounded by a strong network of support. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, we are grateful to share that all of our team members are safe, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to serving our community during this critical time. We are currently offering both in-person and virtual counseling sessions and have expanded our roster of counselors to ensure that everyone in need has access to mental health care. We have dispatched therapists to be onsite at community care stations in the hardest-hit areas, providing immediate support to those affected.

Thanks to the incredible kindness and generosity of our community and donors, we are waiving all therapy fees through November. To further support recovery efforts, we have launched Mental Health Mondays, a free weekly training session designed to equip our community with vital mental health skills to cope with these challenging times and support others. The hybrid trainings are hosted at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and are offered virtually via Zoom, Please note that registration is required.

Together, we can foster healing and resilience. Thank you for standing with us and for your continued support. If you or someone you know is seeking mental health support, we’re here to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Center at (828) 259-3369.

In partnership,

-The Team at All Souls Counseling Center

Mindful Moment

In the past month, so many of you have stepped up to support our community in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Your hard work and dedication has made a huge difference, but it’s also important to check in with yourself. Burnout is real, and recognizing the signs early can help prevent long-term effects or secondary traumatic stress, which is stress reactions and symptoms resulting from exposure to another individual’s traumatic experiences, rather than from exposure directly to a traumatic event.

Take a moment to ask yourself: Have you eaten enough today? Drank enough water? Gotten enough sleep? It can be difficult to prioritize yourself during a crisis, but it is important to rest and recharge when you can. And remember, it’s okay to reach out for support. You’ve been there for your community—now it’s time to take care of you. 💙

Mental Health Mondays

Mental Health Mondays are hosted by All Souls Counseling Center every Monday from 2:00 to 3:00 PM through early November at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. Community members can also join Mental Health Mondays virtually via Zoom. Registration is required! Please sign up using the link below.

Join us for our upcoming free session, "Tools for Resilience", on Monday, November 11th. Led by Dr. Stephanie Citron, a Clinical Psychologist and former All Souls Counseling Center Board Member, this session will offer practical strategies for navigating the emotional challenges that often accompany disaster recovery. Dr. Citron will guide participants through evidence-based tools to foster resilience and support healing in times of adversity.

Mental Health Check-ins at Community Care Stations

In the last month, All Souls Counseling Center has staffed mental health “check-in/compassionate listening” tables at three community resource stations - hubs where WNC residents can more easily access much-needed resources, including but not limited to: meals, medical care, hot showers, laundry services, and vital supplies. Our clinicians worked shifts to be available to anyone wanting to talk at AC Reynolds high school in Fairview, alongside the Red Cross, Heart with Hands, and FEMA in Swannanoa, and at World Central Kitchen site at Bear's Smokehouse BBQ in downtown Asheville.

Currently, our on-site counselors are stationed at the following locations:

  • The YMCA in Downtown Asheville, 30 Woodfin St, Asheville, NC 28801
  • Haywood Street Congregation, 297 Haywood St, Asheville, NC 28801
  • Cane Creek Pool, 590 Lower Brush Creek Rd, Fairview, NC 28730
  • Bear's Smokehouse BBQ/World Central Kitchen 135 Coxe Ave, Asheville, NC 28801

ASCC Welcomes 10 New Licensed Therapists to Help with Hurricane Helene Relief

Lauren Steiner, a local independent journalist and donor, recently interviewed ASCC therapist, Jessie, at the AC Reynolds High School comfort site in Fairview. We are so grateful for the dedication and time of our new contract clinicians, like Jessie, for helping us provide critically needed quality mental health care in communities across Buncombe County. Thank you Lauren for your permission to share! đź’™

ASCC Featured in the News!

Thank you to @wlos_13 for inviting our Executive Director, Meredith Switzer, to share how All Souls Counseling Center is responding to the impact of Hurricane Helene. As highlighted in the coverage, our community is facing both physical and mental hardships in the wake of this disaster. The trauma of these experiences has significantly impacted our community’s mental well-being, making it more important than ever to know that support is available. If you or someone you know is seeking counseling, please call us at (828) 259-3369 to get connected with a licensed therapist.

ASCC Donor Appreciation:

Hurricane Helene Relief Funding

All Souls Counseling Center is deeply grateful for the financial support that has come into our nonprofit over the past five and a half weeks since Hurricane Helene wreaked physical and emotional havoc across WNC. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of time, counsel, and funding support for the emergency relief work our therapists and staff are doing in our Blue Ridge Mountain home.

We began hearing from foundations and businesses as early as October 3rd and since that time have received meaningful grants from: Tom & Nancy Maher of the Pisgah Investments Foundation, the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, the Whitcombe Family Foundation, the Stickney Family Charitable Fund, and CareSource. Many others have let us know how they plan to help us sustain our expanded mental health service hours and community trainings.

In the months ahead we will share with you some of the exceptional ways individuals and groups have helped support the mission of ASCC and our relief initiatives to help heal and bring hope to the people of WNC.

In normal times, we pride ourselves on thanking people promptly. However, as the Development Department is â€śin it” just now - focused on writing or EDRF grant applications and planning critical community meetings with our Executive Director and WNC stakeholders – and some of our thank you correspondence will be delayed. We appreciate your grace during this unusual time.

We are deeply grateful to each and every one of our ASCC friends and donors for your encouragement in our life-changing and life-saving work. Every gift makes a difference.
