Supporting and Celebrating Resilience

Dear ,
On Saturday I welcomed the rain as a group of hardy friends of the Park gathered for our second Full Moon Monthly Member Hike along Bear Valley Trail. We enjoyed this popular trail in a new light. As darkness overtook us our eyes adjusted and our other senses sharpened. We could hear the steady drip from the branches, the rush of the creek, and the soft flutter of an owl taking off. The scents of rain, mud, and riparian foliage mingled and none of us seemed to mind the showers.
The coho salmon also welcome the rain as it raises the creek levels, allowing them to navigate from the ocean to their winter spawning grounds. Earlier this month at PRNSA's West Marin Science Fair, our fisheries conservation staff shared with students how these beautiful, resilient fish find their way home. Our annual fair brings students from schools surrounding the park and community organizations together for hands-on science. Students used their noses during an activity to mimic the way salmon return to the stream where they were born. Visit the NPS website to learn more about salmon, including where to see them locally .
As the winter solstice approaches and the year and the decade come to an end, we are preparing for the coming year and beyond. Thanks to the support of our members we met our board match of $10,000 on Giving Tuesday. We still have a ways to go to meet our budget before December 31 st Please help us reach our $141,000 goal for this month  with a gift to show how much you love Point Reyes National Seashore.
Your donation will support conservation, education, and community building at the Seashore. Please consider making a generous contribution to PRNSA today.

Point Reyes National Seashore Association (PRNSA), in collaboration with the  National Park Service  and  Sonoma Birding , invite families with children ages 3-18 to the 9th annual Point Reyes Christmas Bird Count for Kids (CBC4Kids) on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Point Reyes National Seashore.

Gather your fledglings for this celebration of nature, parks, education and outdoor family fun. The event brings together all the basic elements of birding to introduce the next generation of stewards to the importance of  birds  in the ecosystem and the annual tradition of bird counts. Point Reyes National Seashore is an ideal location for birding with 490 bird species or 54% of all North American birds recorded here, which also makes it a perfect outdoor classroom for you and your brood to learn more about the fascinating world of birds.
