Bridges to Growth Parent Center

Parents and caregivers play the most important role in a child's life. When they provide a nurturing, healthy, enriching environment, children can grow and develop. At Bridges to Growth, we want all parents, caregivers, and children to feel the support they need to thrive.

We offer a variety of classes, activities, and services to offer support and education to adults who care for children, including parenting and childcare provider education classes, one-on-one parenting sessions, children's activities, a toy lending library, and a workroom with die cuts and laminators.

Find out more on our website and register for our upcoming classes and events on Eventbrite. Follow us on Eventbrite to get notified when more events are added.

Developmental Relationships: Providing Support

Each month, we have highlighted one of the five keys identified by Search Institute as vital for strong and healthy relationships with young people. The five keys are: expressing care, challenging growth, providing support, sharing power, and expanding possibilities. This month, we are spotlighting ways to provide kids with support.

Search Institute has identified four actions to support kids that help them stay on track and reach their goals:

  • Navigate: Guide me through hard situations and systems.
  • Empower: Build my confidence to take charge of my life.
  • Advocate: Stand up for me when I need it.
  • Set boundaries: Put in place limits that keep me on track.

Kids need different levels of support as they grow and learn. Young children need lots of support to navigate the world safely, but as they gain experience and maturity, sometimes that means that adults need to step back and provide support from a distance. The important thing is that adults pay attention, empower kids, and scaffold them as they learn to navigate through the ups and downs of life.
