Remembering Joyce Ricard
We were incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Paul's wife, Joyce Ricard. Paul has been a valued operator and driver with us for many years and our hearts go out to him, his daughter Cheyanne, and his family as we mourn with them. Joyce was also the aunt of Mackenzie Mahoney. Joyce was known by many as she worked for us a few years back on our projects in Stratton, VT.

By all accounts, Joyce had a love for life, including her family, the outdoors, and her daycare. She will be incredibly missed by so many.
If you would like to support Paul and his family, a GoFundMe page has been created, and services for Joyce will be held today, Thursday December 29th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven.
Please keep Paul, Mackenzie and their family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
Mackenzie's Tribute
Thank you to every single person who has called, texted, prayed, and supported our family through this tragic accident. The pain and sorrow in these moments seems insurmountable, but each of you and the amazing community surrounding Paul, Cheyanne and our family have truly made it a little bit easier.

Joyce was the most selfless, loving and patient person to walk this earth. Her unconditional love for everyone around her was truly extraordinary. It's so easy to get wrapped up in our day-to-day lives and take things for granted. Things we don't even realize we have taken for granted until it's too late. In her honor...May we all be a little more patient, a little kinder, help each other a little more, but most importantly, make every effort to slow down and make each moment count.

2022 in Review
After a challenging couple of years, 2022 felt like a turn in the right direction. We completed a total of 13 jobs, won bids for 12 new jobs, were recognized for our work on the Moran Plant Frame project, won additional transportation contracts, and welcomed Cummings Land Clearing into the Casella Construction fold, starting our first Land Clearing division.

2022 was also a great year for both team work and personal successes, with everyone stepping up their game to the next level. We saw a number of challenges at jobsites that were overcome by creative thinking and team effort, and we had a record number of in-house promotions this year.

And on the event side of things, we were able to hold our Annual Safety Day in its regularly-scheduled Spring timeslot; we were able to participate in the return of Rutland's Halloween Parade and finally took home the coveted "Best in Show" prize; we held our most successful Wheels for Warmth event to date; and we enjoyed the long-awaited return of our Annual Holiday Party!

Thank you to each and every one of you for all of your hard work and effort this year. We're looking forward to even more successes in 2023!
Snow Removal & Shoveling
Shoveling snow can be a strenuous activity, in part because cold weather can be taxing on the body. There is the potential for exhaustion, dehydration, back injuries or heart attacks.

It is important to follow tips for avoiding cold stress, and to be aware of the potential for unexpected hazards due to the weather conditions. For example, layers of ice can form as the temperature drops, making surfaces even more slippery. A surface that is weighed down by snow must be inspected by a competent person to determine if it is structurally safe to access it, as it may be at risk of collapsing. Snow-covered rooftops can hide hazards such as skylights that you can fall through. Electrical hazards may also exist from overhead power lines or snow removal equipment.
Please take the time to review the tips and precautions to prevent injuries related to snow removal and shoveling.
Can you answer a question related to this week's safety topic?
What is the proper lifting technique to avoid injuries when shoveling snow?
Bend from the waist, lift snow above your shoulders and toss the snow
Keep the back straight, lift with the legs, and do not turn or twist the body
Bend at the knees, and shovel quickly to avoid prolonged exposure to the cold
