When Mary moved to
Victory Centre of River Oaks
to be more active, the thought of camping never crossed her mind. Yet, this August,
at age 79, embarked on her very first overnight camp trip with Camp VIVA!
“My motto is that you’re never too old to try something new,”
said Mary’s daughter
, who joined her mom.
“We fished, rode a paddle-boat and tie-dyed t-shirts.”
Sharon added that being older and having a disability should not hold anyone back, as Mary, who is paralyzed on one side, kept up with all the fun.
“Mom had a really great time.”
What’s more, Sharon’s fiancé
flew from California to surprise Mary. An experienced fisherman, Rainne baited the worms and took the fish off the line for Mary, who reeled in three big ones.
