June 2021
Dear Friends,
I cannot tell you how pleased I am to announce that on June 17 we will return to being ALMOST fully open. Here's the scoop:
  • Return to full hours of Tu&Th 10-7, W&F 2-5, Sa 10-2. We will continue to close on Sunday for the time being.
  • Masks and distance will be strictly required while in the building. If you're unable to mask, you can still take advantage of our pickup or delivery service - simply let us know what you need.
  • If we get so many people inside and they have having trouble distancing, you may be asked to wait outside. We don't anticipate this happening often, but it's the library so anything is possible.
  • We will continue to request only one family at a time in the kids room.
  • Our bathrooms and meeting room remain closed for the time being.
But how to hold?
Should we continue grab-and-go pickups in the foyer or return to checking them out at the desk?
Yes, I don't mind sacrificing a few days of reading time for the convenience.
No, I prefer to pickup at the desk.
We are beyond excited for this big step forward - it's been a tough year during which we have been asked to rethink every aspect of our work in order to continue any semblance of library services to you.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our Library Board of Trustees, our town's Emergency Manager, Selectmen, and most of all, our dedicated staff who have shown unparalleled enthusiasm, grace, and dedication. Pleased or displeased with our operating decisions over the last year, please know that our staff have worked tirelessly and deserve only praise and appreciation.

New Books
The video to the left is for our May order, I'm expecting a June order this week so keep an eye on our stream for a new pageant. In the meantime I've cataloged the it so you can browse and place holds.
What are you watching!?
One shocking thing that has happened during COVID is that our DVD circulation has dropped by nearly 73% from 2019 (4477 DVDs checked out) to 2020 (1219 DVDs checked out) . Yes, we were closed and it was harder... but contrast that with our adult fiction circulation which only dropped by 27%. I don't see DVDs bouncing back, either.

Does this mean the fine folks of Jackson have discovered they prefer streaming their movies? If so, I hope you are using Kanopy, our streaming service that provides some great stuff for free. Simply set up an account with your library card number and you're good to go.

Until I see some increase in DVD circulation, I feel like I have to cut back a bit in buying new items. It's just not super to sink a bunch of money into movies that no one watches. Please let me know if there is something specific you want on DVD and I'll be sure to get it for you.
