Villafane-Ferriol Selected for JUMP Start Program | |
|
Nicole Villafane-Ferriol, MD, Assistant Professor in Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery, was selected for the prestigious Association for Academic Surgery (AAS) and Society of University Surgeons (SUS) co-sponsored program - Junior Underrepresented Mentorship and Promotion (JUMP) Start Program. This two-year program provides executive coaching, mentorship, and specialized training in leadership to assist with academic development and promotion.
Villafane-Ferriol was heavily recruited to UTHealth Houston in 2022. After graduating from her general surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine, she completed a complex general surgical oncology fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center. She currently practices general surgery and surgical oncology, focusing on hepatobiliary surgery. Congratulations to Dr. Villafane-Ferriol!

UTHealth Houston Trauma Faculty Speak at South Texas Symposium | |
David E. Meyer, MD, MS, FACS, Associate Professor, and Krislynn M. Mueck, MD, MPH, MS, Assistant Professor, both from the Division of Acute Care Surgery, were featured speakers at the 4th Annual South Texas Advanced Symposium on Trauma, Critical Care, and Emergency General Surgery. The event took place on Friday, August 16, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton McAllen Convention Center, attracting local first responders and healthcare providers from across the Rio Grande Valley.
Dr. Meyer presented on the 'Recognition and Management of Hemorrhagic Shock,' while Dr. Mueck shared valuable insights on 'Pain Management Strategies and Adjuncts in Acute Care Surgery.' The symposium provided an important platform for professionals to collaborate and enhance the delivery of acute care in the region."
