Big surprise birthday for ProAct veteran staying home
ProAct participant John Erickson celebrated his birthday at home with a "drive by" entourage. Erickson's mother and brother were joined by a decorated parade of vehicles driven by ProAct staff members who came to celebrate his special day. John reacts with enthusiasm. COVID-19 stay home orders have kept him at his group home in Apple Valley for weeks. His mother explains the situation. After attending ProAct in Eagan for many years, he had most recently been receiving services at the nonprofit's Shakopee facility.
Third career's a charm in Red Wing
She’s versatile, she’s new, she figures things out and brings a wealth of experience to ProAct in Red Wing.

“It’s very fun. I wish I would have thought about this type of career decades ago,” said direct service professional Cheri Anderson. After some 40 years working, this is her third field.

Anderson supervises participants in the skills training area and fills in tracking contract work in the office. She owned a printing business for 20 years and worked for 20 more in insurance before that.

A Red Wing native since 1970, her first exposure to ProAct was almost 40 years ago while serving on a committee for the local United Way. Anderson visited ProAct in the early 80s, and remembers getting a tour from Sally Ogren, who is now the director.
Parent makes, gives 200 masks
The need for masks at ProAct prompted some hard work by the parent of a participant in Red Wing. Vicki Bowen made 200 with attractive designs in preparation for the resumption of services.

“I hope the 200 will be a good start,” said Bowen. Her creativity took a letter form, as well, as she spelled out the nonprofit’s name with her mask creations.

Drawing from a “very large fabric stash,” Bowen spent two to three weeks on the project. She sent some extra elastic along to ProAct. -more-
