Sometimes God blesses us.
In the cheerIess cold of winter, when we have wearied of the ice, a tiny snowdrop lifts its delicate flowered head through the snow and gives us a reason to smile.
The clouds break, after days of bleakness, to reveal the starry night, complete with brilliant planets holding a steady gaze in the sky.
A young woman awaits the arrival of her husband from whom she has been separated for three years. Both are refugees, invited by the U.S. to start their lives over after fleeing the civil war that separated them. She stands at Hancock Airport in the red gown she wore on her wedding day as he walks through the glass doors into her arms and the entire airport stops to cheer.
Last Friday, we had that same kind of experience with four Franciscan Sisters who make up the leadership team of the Central New York congregation. They came to learn about the work of InterFaith Works, to share with us their vision of Beloved Community, and to offer help and prayer for the refugees. We welcome their interest and discover many ways for them to join us in the work of settling refugees. In these two painful weeks of governmental cuts directed at the most vulnerable people in our communities, the Sisters came like a reminder that spring will come like a breath of fresh air and that we must always be ready for a blessing.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out with support and hope and belief in our work. We need you more than ever, and are deeply moved by everything you have done.
