We have a tale of October twists and turns, fundraiser news, real estate news :-) and a call for volunteers in November.

Surprising October

Last time we wrote you we asked when you'd like to have a volunteer appreciation event. Then, October took several surprising turns!

We were invited to be a community partner at a two-day Escape Music Festival in the Red Hook Containerport which would have given us a chance to get you, our volunteers, into great concerts :-) while earning PortSide a nice donation from the concert promoter.

Then, within days of the concert date of Columbus Day weekend, things reversed themselves, and the concert plan left the port!  A few days later, it resurfaced with Governors Island as the site; but we were no longer community partners and had no concert experience to offer people volunteering for us :-) nor any donation either.

Packed house at fundraiser on 10/28
At that point, there was no time to sandwich in a volunteer appreciation party before our fundraiser on 10/28.

Last Tuesday's fundraiser was a great success (sell-out crowd of 150, money raised, great political support and more) and means we can now throw you a better party!

There's another twist in the October tale.

We were told mid-month that we need to clear everything out of the shed, and it has to get out by Monday 11/17.

This is partly to make way for a tenant, and partly because - big news - we expect to be getting a long-term home in Atlantic Basin in Red Hook!!!

That news was announced at the fundraiser.

Paperwork on that deal is being worked out still, no move date set yet. Councilman Carlos Menchaca has been very actively involved in solving our real estate situation, and he has made a world of difference.
