So far 400+ members of our allergy/asthma community have taken the Pain, Exercise and Cannabis Experience (PEACE) survey to share their knowledge, attitudes and experience with cannabis (including marijuana). We would also like to learn more about potential benefits and adverse effects of cannabis on people with asthma and allergies.

Now we want to hear from you!

The survey is for BOTH users and non-users of cannabis. It does not matter if you have ever used cannabis, used cannabis in the past, or currently use cannabis. The survey is confidential and anonymous.

You've got questions about cannabis as a medical treatment. We've got answers.

We spoke with Joanna Zeiger, PhD, a former U.S. professional triathlete and 2008 Ironman 70.3 World Champion who competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and placed fourth in triathlon. She is also CEO and researcher with Canna Research Group, an organization seeking to better understand how people use cannabis to manage medical conditions.

Q: Should people with asthma smoke or vape cannabis?

Dr. Zeiger: We DO NOT recommend that people with asthma smoke or vape cannabis. It is not a safe way to consume cannabis with this condition.

Q: What are different ways people can consume cannabis?

Dr. Zeiger: Apart from smoking and vaping, the most common are edibles, topicals, tinctures and oils ... Edibles can take longer to work -- up to 45-70 minutes -- but their lasting effects are much longer. This is ideal to aid sleep. Topicals work differently and their effectiveness depends on the type of injury or pain you want to treat.
