Suspending Holds in OverDrive

Too many books to read? Save your place in line!

No time to read that book you've been waiting for, but you don't want to lose your hold? You can suspend your OverDrive/Libby hold until you're ready for a new book!

When you suspend a hold, you will continue to move up on the wait list without a title becoming available for you. If you reach #1 on the list, you will be able to borrow the next available copy once your suspended hold period ends.

To suspend all of your existing holds in the Libby app :
  1. Go the Holds section of your Libby Shelf.
  2. Tap the Actions button, then Suspend All Holds.
  3. Use the slider to set how long you would like to suspend your holds.
  4. Tap Update Holds.
  5. To edit or remove suspensions from all holds, go to Suspend All Holds. Choose a new time frame or slide all the way to the left to make all holds Active again. Tap Update Holds.

To suspend individual holds in the Libby app:
  1. Go the Holds section of your Libby Shelf.
  2. Tap Manage Hold next to the title you would like to suspend, then Suspend Hold.
  3. Use the slider to set how long you would like to suspend your hold.
  4. Tap Update Hold.
  5. To edit or remove a suspension from an individual hold, go to Manage Hold next to that title, then Suspended Hold. Choose a new time frame or slide all the way to the left to make the hold Active again. Tap Update Hold.

  1. Click My Account, then Holds.
  2. Click Suspend hold under the title you would like to suspend.
  3. Use the drop-down menu to set how long you would like to suspend your hold.
  4. Click Suspend.
  5. To edit or remove a suspension from a hold, go to Edit hold under that title. Choose a new time frame and click Suspend, or click Remove suspension to make the hold active again.

If a hold becomes available when you're not yet ready to borrow it, you can still choose to have OverDrive/Libby deliver the book later to you instead. Click here for more information on how the Deliver Later option works.
