A note from our Co-Presidents We hope everyone had a wonderful first two days of school and that our new 3 rd  graders are starting to feel at home       This week there will be no school on Monday for Rosh Hashanah.  The Staff Appreciation Lunch is on Thursday, September 13th. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to bring donations so far.  However, a few more donations are still needed.  If you can help, the link for our sign-up can be accessed by clicking HERE .   Our Welcome Back to School Picnic will take place on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 6pm. Flyers went home via backpack mail last week. If your family would like to order pizza to be delivered at the event, please return the completed form and payment no later than Wednesday, Sept 12th.     Our first school store will take place on Friday, September 21 st . The kids always have a blast shopping for school and locker supplies! We are looking for volunteers to help out with all lunch periods. See below for more information. FIRST SCHOOL STORE OF THE YEAR We are looking for volunteers for the School Store being held next Friday, Sept 21 . The school store is a great opportunity to see your child and their friends during lunch. It's also really fun to help the children shop! Here are the school store times : School Store setup: 11:00am - 11:45am 3rd Grade: 11:50am - 12:30pm 5th Grade: 12:30pm - 1:10pm 4th Grade: 1:10pm - 1:50pm Consider helping out for a lunch period or a time that works best for you. We appreciate any time you can give! Please email Lynn Gutkin ( [email protected] ) if you can come in. We cannot run the school without the help of our Sussex Avenue community.

SUSSEX AVENUE FALL CLUBS! ! The HSA is currently looking for volunteers interested in running our after-school clubs. Clubs will run for 6 weeks, beginning 9/24 and ending 11/2.  Each club will meet once a week at Sussex Avenue School from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Some possible ideas for clubs include reading, drama, chess, newspaper, arts and crafts, computer games or coding, indoor soccer, yoga, dance, scrabble, board games, and scrapbooking. There will be a stipend for each Club Leader. If you are not already an employee (full-time, part-time, sub) of the MSD, you will need to be fingerprinted and background checked before leading a club. There is a sign-up fee of $25 per student for each club. If you have an idea for a club and you are willing and able to run it, please contact Lauren Hassan ( [email protected] ) by Tuesday, September 11th (or earlier!) . Clubs start early this year and we need time to get the paperwork out to students. Please provide the following information: -) a brief description of the club activity -) the day (s) you are available to run the club -) the maximum number of students in the club -) any required supplies (such as paper, glue etc.). We will ask for a supply fee from each participant if needed. HSA will coordinate all the logistics for setting up an after-school club (i.e. scheduling, sign up process). You will be responsible for escorting the children to the side entrance of the school at 4:30 PM for pickup. Children in the Sunset program will need to be escorted to the cafeteria.  The HSA can't run the clubs without our wonderful volunteers! The children really enjoy the clubs and look forward to participating in them each year. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions concerning the after-school clubs, please email  [email protected] .

Fall Family Fun Night Picnic - COME JOIN THE FUN!! Monday, September 17 at 6pm Grab your soccer ball, kick ball or volleyball for games on the back fields or just hit the playground with friends!! Bring your blanket and lawn chairs if you choose and let's have some fun! If you'd like to purchase a cheese pizza to be delivered to the event, please return the form sent home with your student or email Nicole Cornine at [email protected] . Water will be provided and Kona Ice will be available to purchase!

Eblast email management Do you have a rising 4th or 5th grader AND an incoming 3rd grader? In an effort to maintain accurate "by grade" contact lists, the HSA is asking that you let us know if you have an incoming 3rd grader. You can either respond to this email or text "classof28" to 22828 and follow the instructions in the response text. Either way takes only a minute of your time but saves the HSA hours of administrative volunteer time and effort! Thank you!
