Sussex County Habitat for Humanity's COVID-19 Update
Dear Habitat volunteers, partner families, friends and supporters,

We miss you!

As an organization that has spent the last 29 years bringing people together to build homes, celebrate each other, and praise our God, it is difficult to take a break from gathering. That said, I am proud of how each person has taken this temporary change seriously and respected the difficult decisions that we have had to make for everyone's safety.

Here is an update of what is going on with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity in the midst of this pandemic.

Office and ReStore

The office and ReStore remain closed to volunteers and the public through May 15. If anything changes, we will let you know. All office staff and ReStore leadership continue to work, most of us remotely.

Construction Sites

The construction sites will continue to be closed to volunteers and partner families through May 15. If anything changes, we will let you know.

Our construction staff, classified as essential workers, has continued to work while keeping a safe physical distance. ‘The House that ReStore Built’ in Ellendale will be complete next week, and we are selling a recently renovated home in Concord Village, Seaford at the end of the month. In the next few weeks, we will dry-in two homes in Milton to protect them from the weather. These two homes are the ‘Women Build 2020 House’ and the second ‘House that ReStore Built’. When volunteers come back to site, there will be plenty to do to complete these homes. Volunteers will also be needed to complete homes in Blades and Ingram Village. We will need your help more than ever to finish these homes so they are ready for our homebuyer families. It will be a joyous time!

There is a lot of news about the government stimulus packages and state and private resources being made available to help small businesses and nonprofits. Rest assured that we are taking advantage of any resources that will help us get through this and prepare us to build strong after things return to our new normal. Right now, we expect our build schedule to be affected next fiscal year, but there will be plenty to do. We currently have 12 partner families in our homeownership program, and we will be working to get them all into homes over the next 12 months.

Partner Families and Homeowners

We have prepared resources and guidance to help our partner families and homeowners get through issues they may be experiencing as a result of COVID-19.

I am confident that we will get through this and will be able to rebuild. We are still coaching clients, supporting partner families, communicating with volunteers, advocating for change, fundraising, exploring new programs and planning for the future.

If you are able, please  make a donation  to sustain our mission of bringing people together to build strength, stability, and self-reliance.

Happy Easter!

I pray that during this Easter weekend, and every day, that you know God's comfort and forgiveness. I am confident that He has a plan for Sussex County Habitat, and I look forward to being together in new ways as it unfolds.

In faith and service,
Kevin J. Gilmore
