Marin Green Home Tour

October 24th 6pm - 8pm

The climate is changing. Your home should, too. The free, virtual Marin Green Home Tour showcases how Marin homeowners are adapting their homes to combat climate change, improve air quality, generate clean energy, and move towards a safer, healthier, greener, more resilient future. The event features short video tours of 5 Marin homes, followed by live Q&As with the homeowners. See heat pumps, induction stoves, solar and battery systems, and other strategies for maximizing clean energy. See greywater systems, rainwater harvesting, recirculation pumps, and other strategies for conserving water. Learn how to access rebates and free planning services for your own green home updates, tips for renters, and whether solar remains a great investment. This event is a project of Sustainable Marin.

Green Your Ride to School!

Safe Routes to Schools is working with schools all across Marin County to increase green trips (walking, biking, carpooling, or taking transit) to help reduce traffic congestion and pollution around schools. Parents and guardians are important partners in this effort! If you have a school-aged child (or children), we invite your family to develop a plan to green your trips to school.

This school year, Safe Routes to Schools will also be hosting a bunch of fun events and contests, starting with the Buddy Up Contest to encourage students to travel to school together. Buddying up with other families to walk, bike, or carpool is a great way to save time and build relationships in our community!

Other events this year include Walk & Roll Wednesdays, International Walk to School Day (October 2, 2024) and Ruby Bridges Day (November 13, 2024).

Sustainability Tip of the Month

Make Halloween safe, fun, and sustainable for everyone: little ghouls, goblins, and our local wildlife!

The team at WildCare wants you to know that fake spiderweb and other stringy decorations, entangle and endanger our local birds and animals. Here are some tips from WildCare on how you can help protect our wildlife this Halloween.

Keep it planet friendly (but still festive) by choosing treats that are in boxes or foil instead of plastic wrappers.

Let your pumpkins multitask: Toast pumpkin seeds, make soup or bread before you put your jack o lantern out on display. Remember to compost your pumpkins! Don't place it in the garbage: your pumpkin will produce methane, a dangerous greenhouse gas. But in the compost-it works to improve soil health!

Happy Halloween!
