Sustainability Tip of the Month

Get spooky and have fun while keeping Halloween low waste!

Want to know something scary? This year, US consumers are expected to spend over 10.5 billion dollars on Halloween- including plastic-wrapped candies and costumes made of synthetic fibers that end up in our landfills on November 1st.

Here are some great ideas to tone down plastic waste while still having a festive Halloween. Rethink costumes and save some money too.

When the party's over, compost that pumpkin! Remember that a pumpkin in the compost (green barrel) improves our soil. A pumpkin in the garbage bin produces harmful greenhouse gases. You can also donate extra candy to prevent it from going into landfill.
