Plastic Free July

Welcome to Plastic Free July! Plastic Free July is an initiative that began in Australia in 2011 as an effort to help people reduce the amount of plastic they encounter on a day-to-day basis. It has now grown into the Plastic Free Foundation, a global non-profit. Plastic Free July is a challenge and an opportunity to figure out how we can each take steps to reduce plastic in our lives. This July, consider joining millions worldwide in the Plastic Free July challenge to reduce demand for single-use plastics, create sustainable habits, and protect our environment.

Where Do I Start?

  • Bring your own reusable coffee mug when you visit your favorite café.
  • Keep a stash of reusable grocery bags in your car or work bag to avoid taking single-use bags at the store.
  • Forgo plastic produce bags or use reusable mesh produce bags.
  • Carry a set of reusable utensils with you in your purse, backpack, or bag.
  • Check out a local refill store to refill common household items (soap, shampoo, conditioner, detergent, and more!) without the need for new packaging. Check out a list of refill stores in Marin.

Bay Area Regional Climate Action Plan Public Workshop

July 22nd 6pm - 7:30pm

Weigh in on draft strategies for regional climate action! The final public workshop on the Bay Area Regional Climate Action Plan (BARCAP) will give participants an opportunity to learn more about climate action strategy development process, review additional avenues to provide feedback, and participate in Q&A with project staff. They will be doing a deep dive into key regional climate strategies focused on building and vehicle electrification, composting, expanding urban green spaces, climate beneficial agriculture, and supporting renewable energy development.

Your input will help shape community priorities and implementation considerations as they move towards finalizing the plan for regional climate action this fall.

Can’t make the workshop? You can still provide your thoughts on the draft measures by using online review and commenting platform that will be open July 2 through July 28, soon to be accessible at the BARCAP project webpage (Bay Area Regional Climate Action Planning Initiative).
