Do It in the Dark!

Green Princeton is running a 3-week long energy reduction competition between the residential colleges, from April 2-21. The college that lowers its energy usage the most wins a sustainable study break! Check your standings on the leaderboard and save energy by following these easy tips:

  1. Turn off the lights when you leave the room
  2. Unplug electronics when they are done charging and unplug cords when not in use
  3. Work in commonly lit spaces 
  4. Work outside (weather permitting)

Princeton Facilities Staff Discover Enormous Honeybee Colony
During February's record-breaking warm spell, Princeton University Facilities staff members, Drew Slimmer and John Castles, went to McCosh Hall to do repairs, noting honeybees flying in and out of a hole under a vestibule roof. Upon closer inspection, Slimmer and Castles found not only a roof in need of repair, but also a large hive, its intricate honeycomb swarming with perhaps 25,000 honeybees.
Student-Proposed Resource Recovery Station Piloted at Tiger Chef Challenge
At the second annual Tiger Chef Challenge, sustainability was on display in more than just the delicious plant-based dishes created by student teams competing in the Latin-American-inspired cook-off. Campus Dining also aimed to minimize the event's landfill waste by encouraging food vendors to use compostable serving materials, and by piloting a "Resource Recovery Station" for waste disposal.
Facilities Engineering and Campus Energy Partners with PECS to Explore Carbon Reduction Strategies
In early 2016, Tom Nyquist, Executive Director of Facilities Engineering and Campus Energy, presented to the Princeton Energy and Climate Scholars (PECS) the University’s energy system and efforts to increase efficiency and decrease CO2 emissions. Following the presentation, PECS decided to focus their annual project on working with Tom’s team to understand Princeton’s emissions reduction challenge. 
Building Services is Hiring a Recycling Intern!

The intern will assist the Recycling & Solid Waste Manager with a variety of functions related to the campus recycling program and operations. In this position, the intern will assist with a diverse array of programmatic, research, field work and outreach projects that will develop skills in program and project management, data collection and analysis, report writing, policy development, and in-person outreach.
