Walk, Bike, and Roll

bike-skate-kids-sm.jpg

May 3rd is National Bike and Roll to School Day. The purpose is to build a sense of community, school spirit, and encourages our students to be more active. This is also a way to engage staff and families to reduce carbon emissions and find alternatives to driving. Carpooling, biking/scooting, or walking can create an opportunity to be eco friendly and inspire last change.

If you would like to register your school for a Bike and Roll event for May 3, or another day in May that works best for you school's schedule, click the register button below.

Building Report Cards

CRCSD students and staff play an important role in reducing our energy and water usage, waste consumption, and carbon footprint.

Energy Star Scores compare buildings similar to ours with others nationwide. So what can your school and staff do to increase your Energy Star Score? There is a list of simple ways to decrease energy usage at your school on our website; click on the Report Card button below.

Congratulations!

CRCSD's very own Doug Thompson won The GreenCR Champion Award on Earth Day at EcoFest. Doug was nominated and awarded because of his incredible work as the Green Team Leader at Grant Wood Elementary.

These awards recognize community members who care about environmental health and are champions of nature. Doug works hard every year to educate students about the environment and sustainability practices.

Congratulations Doug! You have certainly earned it!

Green Teams in Action

Commitment to the Earth

First graders at Grant Wood Elementary celebrated Earth Hour by picking up litter around their school campus. Earth Hour is a worldwide celebration organized by the World Wildlife Fund. It is held annually to encourage people to turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour.

After these Grant Wood first graders turned off the lights, they chose to spend that time doing even more good for the planet. Thank you for your leadership Griffins!

Upcoming plant sale

Metro High School students have been diligently growing starter plants of vegetables and flowers for their upcoming sale. They will also feature a variety of 3D-printed pots with assorted flower arrangements.

The plant and pot sale will be at the NewBo Market on Saturday, May 13, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Please stop by and support the work of these students by congratulating them and taking something special home.

May Challenge

Green teams participate in unique challenges each month and allow for the opportunity to teach students about environmental best practices. In addition, teams that participate earn funding for projects and activities thanks to our generous local business sponsors.

As the spring flowers and plants grow and gather, so do the weeds. One of the responsibilities of the Green Teams is to maintain school gardens and flower beds. This is a wonderful time to do some early weeding. Inviting the rest of the school to join is a great way to bring students and staff together.

Please notify Green Team Coordinator, Kristine Sorensen, if you are participating in this challenge. If you need assistance with this challenge she can provide resources for you. Teams will receive $100 for completing this challenge by the end of the month.
