Sustainable CT Seeks
Equity Coaches for 2023
Multiple Positions Available
|
Sustainable CT is eager to expand its cohort of Equity Coaches for 2023. Coaches work as contractors to Sustainable CT under a flexible schedule, providing between 6 - 40 hours of coaching support per month. Equity Coaches provide valuable one-on-one support to Sustainable CT registered towns to build more inclusive, resilient, and vibrant communities that provide opportunities for all to thrive. Coaching services include:
~ Guide towns on connecting with and learning from underrepresented residents to co-create programs and projects related to any and all actions in the Sustainable CT action roadmap.
~ Guide municipal staff in developing equitable and inclusive projects that can be supported by significant federal funding opportunities (Inflation Reduction Act, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act/Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, American Rescue Plan Act).
~ Support the creation of safe and respectful spaces for residents experiencing inequity to share their lived experience and input with municipal leaders (e.g., around affordable housing).

The Next Sustainable CT Coffee Hour:
January 20 at 10 a.m.
Using the Mini Liquor Bottle Fund to Reduce Waste in your Community
Please join us to learn from other towns and exchange ideas on effective use of the Mini Liquor Bottle Fund. This Coffee Hour will include: an overview of the law and the funds that have flowed to towns in 2022, examples shared by communities that have used the funds to impact waste reduction, and, as always, a lively discussion. Bring your ideas, stories, and questions to share, but maybe don't spike the coffee.
Join Sustainable CT for (virtual) informal discussions most third Fridays of each month at 10 a.m. We share program updates and resources, explore your questions, and strengthen the network of Sustainable CT champions. These sessions are free and open to all.

Secret Santa is Coming to Town
CJ Monteiro needed to find a “Secret Santa” gift for his best friend and roommate, Chase King, at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. He knew that Chase loved sustainability and wanted to work in the field as his profession. So, being a Connecticut native, CJ did what any enterprising, young Secret Santa would do: he contacted Sustainable CT. “I was hoping one of the employees at Sustainable CT would be able to take some time to talk to [Chase] about what he can expect,” CJ said, “and what steps he should be taking to continue in the sustainability sector.”
That’s all our resident cheer-maker, Mary Dickerson, needed to hear as she literally donned the red cap. “Sounds like the best type of Secret Santa gift to me!” she replied. “I work with our Fellows program at Sustainable CT. Our Fellows are mostly rising college juniors and seniors with sustainability related majors hoping to pursue a career in a sustainability field. I'm happy to speak with Chase about his potential career opportunities.”
And, so, with the Magic of Christmas (a/k/a Zoom), the gift was joyfully given and received. “Definitely the best Secret Santa gift I’ve ever had!” exclaimed Chase.
Some days we just love our jobs. Ho, ho, ho.
