Alexander's Restaurant: Serving up Sustainability!

If you enjoy dining in a beautiful California casual setting with picturesque water views overlooking a stunning harbor surrounded by majestic mountains, Alexander's Restaurant, located inside the Four Points by Sheraton Ventura Harbor Resort, serves up a substantial helping of ambience as well as delicious, fresh seafood and meat entrees. As a new City of Ventura Certified Green Business, Alexander's, also demonstrates a host of sustainable practices to their menu.

"The resort started employing eco-friendly programs and practices in 2012," said James Boldizar, Director of Sales for the Four Points by Sheraton Ventura Harbor Resort. "In fact, it's the resort's goal, as well as the goal of all Starwood Hotels, to cut our carbon footprint 30% by 2020. So being sustainable is something that's a top priority."  MORE.

What's in season for winter?

Are you in a dinner rut? Do you always purchase the same types of fruits and vegetables from your local grocer whether they are in season or not?

Living in Ventura, we're fortunate because our community is located in the hub of agriculture. In fact, according to the California Department of Food and Agriculture,  over a third of the country's vegetables and two-thirds of the country's fruits and nuts are grown in California!

If you haven't taken advantage of your local certified farmer's market, where great tasting, fresh produce, a more health conscious choice for you and your family, is abundant and doesn't have to be processed or frozen to travel miles to get to your table, make a plan to visit a venue near you!

Taking the Mystery of becoming a City of Ventura Certified Green Business

In 2011, The City of Ventura Environmental Sustainability Division launched the Green Business Certification program  as a means to foster and support environmental sustainability in the local business community.

Becoming a Certified Green Business is FREE and currently available for local retail stores, offices, restaurants, and multi-family residential complexes. To date, there are approximately 50 local businesses in Ventura that have been certified and that number is growing every month.

"Green business is just smart business," said Lars Davenport, City of Ventura Environmental Specialist. "The certification process is simple, and business owners are finding that it provides great benefits like attracting customers and saving money on utility bills."  MORE.
