Sustaining through COVID-19
As COVID-19 extends its impact into the summer months, our VeloYouth Board of Directors would like to give thanks to those individuals and organizations that have played a key role in keeping us moving forward.
Jim Benedict
In June, Jim Benedict transitioned from the VeloYouth Board in order to serve at-risk youth in new ways. Jim joined the VeloYouth Board in 2017 and focused his energy on bringing awareness to the needs of the kids we serve, as well as making impactful changes to the structure of our organization. While we will miss his energetic presence, we are already working ways to partner on projects to serve these youth at Monarch School, Bayfront Charter, and similar San Diego schools.
Duane Roth Legacy Foundation
Several years ago, VeloYouth was recognized by the Duane Roth Legacy Foundation as one of 15 small San Diego non-profits that live the vision of Duane Roth to help others Rise Up. This spring, DRLF continued their support to help ensure that VeloYouth continues to Rise Up and stay strong through COVID-19. Our thanks to Dr. Bob Kaplan, Jessica Zemple, Duane Roth’s family, and members of the foundation for your support. We are grateful!
Las Primeras
Las Primeras is an organization of women who support non-profits in San Diego’s South County and long-time supporters of VeloYouth. In this, their 70th year, Las Primeras shifted their annual fundraising gala to an online auction, understanding that the organizations they support need their help more than ever. Rather than cancel their event, they resolved to maintain their support and shifted gears. Thank you to the women of Las Primeras for persevering and helping others sustain!
You can make a difference now!
Our positive thoughts go out to you as we cope during this crisis. VeloYouth is a program designed to create a better quality of life. That mission does not change in these times of ups and downs. With your help and support, we continually grow. VeloYouth is taking this time, with schools closed and programs postponed, to shift focus and give greater attention to the ideas we don’t always have time to fully develop. We are enhancing our programs with our partners with the goal of seeing our kids more and being of greater service.
