The Wizard of Oz brings its magic to Sutter Street Theatre
The most beloved tale of all time comes to life on the stage. Dorothy and her three friends trot delightfully and tunefully down that fabled road of yellow brick in The Wizard of Oz.
After a tornado whisks her away to the magical land of Oz, young Dorothy Gale teams up with a Scarecrow, a Tin Woodsman and a Cowardly Lion to find the mighty Wizard of Oz, who can send her home. Along the way, they must avoid the clutches of the Wicked Witch of the West, who is trying to steal the mysterious magic slippers that once belonged to her evil sister… but are now on Dorothy’s feet. Dorothy eventually learns just how magical friendship can be and how wonderful it can feel to go home again.
Fun for all ages from little tykes to grandparents.

Opening July 26
Visiting Mr. Green
By Jeff Baron
Directed by Janelle Kauffman
Starring Stephen Kauffman and Shane Burrows

Mr. Green, an elderly, retired dry cleaner, wanders into New York traffic and is almost hit by a car driven by Ross Gardiner, a 29-year-old corporate executive. The young man is given a community service of helping the recent widower once a week for six months. What starts as a comedy about two men who do not want to be in the same room together becomes a gripping and moving drama as they get to know each other, come to care about each other, and open old wounds they’ve been hiding and nursing for years. Translated into 22 languages, with over 200 productions in large and small venues, it has won numerous best play and best actor awards throughout the world.

July 26 through August 18 on Friday and Saturday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 4:00pm

For tickets go to www.SutterStreetTheatre.com or call (916) 353-1001.

AUDITION - Little Red Riding Hood and the Magic Dragon
Auditions for Little Red Riding Hood and the Magic Dragon
When: Sunday, July 21 – 7:00pm
Where: Sutter Street Theatre Annex, 710 Figueroa Street, Folsom See Map- https://goo.gl/maps/8pRg6Fi1vMCzmFX9A
What to bring: Prepare a short song. We strongly suggest that you bring sheet music but if that is not possible a CD or phone will be accepted. An accompanist will be provided. Also bring a headshot and resume if you have them.
The show runs September 7 through September 29 on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00pm.
Rehearsals will start approximately four weeks before opening and are usually Mondays through Thursdays at 7:00pm.
Synopsis: The musical begins where the story of Little Red Riding Hood ends. Little Red is bored with her story and with the help of Toby the Dragon, sets off to find new adventures.
Following are the characters:
Little Red Riding Hood – Female – older child to teen
Grandmother, Witch 1, Witch 2 – Female – Would prefer an adult actor but will consider an older teen
The roles of the witches are comedic in nature.
It is possible the roles will be split among different actors.
Woodsman, Hansel, Prince, Knight – Male – Would prefer an actor in their 20’s or 30’s but will consider an older teen.
The actor should be able to handle multiple characters and bring an individual reality to each one. It is also possible that the roles will be split among several actors.
Toby the Magic Dragon – Male – Child or Teen
Toby is a puppet that will be operated by the actor who will also speak Toby’s lines. Ability to do different dialects is a plus.
Magic – Male or Female
This is a non-speaking role but an important part of establishing the magic of the show, hence the name. The actor should be able to move well as there is some stylized movement of this character—not dance but a smooth, flowing aspect to the movements.
