The Message this Week

Preaching Text:  Jeremiah 18:1-11

God is the potter! Jeremiah is taken on a field trip to a pottery studio where he sees the artisan shape and reshape a piece of clay until it ultimately becomes something useful.  God tells Jeremiah that is how it is with the people- God is the potter and the people are the clay.  It’s a beautiful image- but how do we really feel about being clay?

Creating and recreating God, we sometimes resist being reshaped, reformed, changed.  Help us to see your purpose for us, to join your work of reforming. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

When God compares people to something inanimate, like clay, doesn’t that make our faith kind of passive?

• Creator God, you formed us out of the mud of the earth in your own image. When our actions or inactions mar the perfection you envision for us, make us new by your loving hand.
• Renew in us a commitment to your call to care for all that you have made just as you do, that we might preserve, protect, and live in peace with the natural world.
• Remind our leaders of their responsibility to work for the well-being of everyone they serve.
• Help us to care for our bodies, and when they fail us, strengthen us in trust that you are present in our pain. Give hope and healing to all who suffer, especially Ken & Sue Issel and Ric Tornberg.
• Remind us always of your boundless mercy and grace, that we might, in gratitude, change our ways to act in justice and mercy to all those around us.
• Keep us ever mindful of those who have gone before us in the faith, that we might hold fast to your promise of everlasting life until we see them again face to face.

Trusting in your unending grace for all that you have made, we lift these and the prayers of our hearts to your loving care. Amen.

Join us for our annual Swedish pancake breakfast this Saturday, June 21 from 8AM until the batter runs out! This event raises funds for GLC mission trips to Eastern Kentucky. If you can't make it but would like to make a donation, please click HERE.

Volunteers and Ingredients Needed!! We will be preparing dinner for 80 people at Holy Trinity Soup Kettle in Elgin. On Sunday, June 29 we will prepare the meal between services and need volunteers to bake the casseroles at GLC, deliver to Holy Trinity, and serve the meal at Holy Trinity.
