The Play's the Thing

It's mid-November, and parents and grandparents know what that means.
School productions are in full swing.

This weekend, there are stagings of "Mary Poppins" and "The Little Mermaid", with more to come in the coming weeks.

In Oneonta, Hartwick College is offering a production of "The 39 Steps."

Soon, there will be concerts, and dance performances at a high school or college near you.  So keep your calendar clear.

These are the days of young talents and proud parents.

Enjoy them!
They come and go quickly...

We'll see you next Thursday.

Mary Gauthier
Gauthier's first nine albums presented extraordinary confessional songs, deeply personal, profoundly emotional pieces ranging from "I Drink," a blunt accounting of addiction, to "March 11, 1962," the day she was born - and relinquished to an orphanage - to "Worthy," in which the singer finally understands she is deserving of love. Maybe that's where the confessional song cycle ends, for she has midwifed these eleven new songs in careful collaboration with other souls whose struggle is urgent, immediate, and palpable. And none are about her.

Set in 1787, Our Country's Good tells the extraordinary true story of a group of convicts transported to Australia as a punishment for their crimes. Survival is by no means certain in this strange, unfamiliar world, yet an officer inspires them to rehearse and perform a play. Facing opposition, supply shortages, abuse and the threat of hangings, the odds are seemingly stacked against them.
