Important Company Announcement

The future of bucket elevators is here! After months of waiting, we are excited to finally announce that we are officially accepting quotes for the new Silver-Sweet® QL Series Bucket Elevators!

With innovation in mind, our new QL Series Bucket Elevators introduce an optimized and efficient design that enhances all features across the board when compared to our legacy line.

Enhanced equipment lifespan, serviceability, and a reduced assembly time allow this machine to be highly versatile. To do this, our new design emphasizes G140 USA prime steel construction, head and boot lip seals standard, and bigger, heavier-duty access doors.

Please send any requests for the new bucket elevator to your territory sales representative!

The employees of Sweet Manufacturing Company would like to honor and recognize the life and service of Jim Lafferty.

Jim was born on June 15, 1946, the son of Edward and Marguerite (Schulz) Lafferty. He grew up in Springfield, Ohio alongside his sister, Marilyn Lafferty. After serving four years in the United States Air Force, Jim graduated from Wittenberg University with a B.A. in Business Administration.

On April 29 of 1991, Jim joined Sweet as the Sales Coordinator. Throughout his time with Sweet, Jim was named Senior Sales Coordinator in 2005, Customer Service Specialist in 2009, and retired in 2012. He continued to assist Sweet "behind the scenes" in the Sales Department by providing estimating support until 2021.

Jim enjoyed flying his airplane, riding his motorcycle, and cooking food. He also loved playing the guitar and was a massive Ohio State Football fan. He was known to love and spend time with his family, including his wife Julie; his stepson, Jason; and his two grandchildren, Katie and Megan.

Jim Lafferty passed away at 76 years old this past May. He will be loved, missed, and celebrated for years to come. With heartfelt sympathy to his wife Julie and the entire Lafferty family, the Sweet family will forever be thankful to have been a part of Jim's truly wonderful life.

Uruguay - Sales Trip

Julio Contreras, VP of Sales, traveled to Uruguay in June to meet with our Authorized Dealer, Pablo Díaz, and they visited three Cargill locations: Nueva Palmira, Mercedes, and Cardonawith equipment supplied by Sweet in 2010, 2012, and 2014, respectively.

During the visit, Julio remarkably found that our equipment has been working non-stop with minor wear even though each storage site experienced 4-5 rotations per year, with an equivalent of +200k TONS of product handling per year.

We are incredibly grateful to collaborate with Cargill Latin America managers to produce such iconic installations. We look forward to continuing support for their growth and dominance in the region.

Below are some pictures of the installations Julio visited during his trip:

We look forward to assisting all customers in Uruguay and Argentina and strive to provide the industry with the best support!

CalorMatic® - Waste To Feed

After processing a recent test using our CalorMatic® Test Site, we are excited to announce that our machine is delivering preferable results for use in Food Waste to Feed!

With this already popular product, we are proud to know that the CalorMatic® Heat Processor can now be used to help shrink the 119 billion pounds of food wasted worldwide each year! For additional information on this growing application, please reach out to Oscar Abreu, CalorMatic® Product Manager.

Flite-Veyor® - Perlite Test

We recently tested a new material, perlite, using our Low Profile Flite-Veyor® Chain Conveyor. We are proud to announce yet another important product application using our Flite-Veyor® Line!

Perlite is a naturally occurring material that is used to speed up germination and rooting, and improve aeration, draining and insulation in potting mixes as well as to improve the texture of clay soils. When heated sufficiently, perlite will greatly expand up to 25 times its original size—resulting in a highly porous mixture.

As we continue to identify more applications for this conveyor, the more pleased we are to have it as part of our product line.

A Duchess head and boot were on display as well, allowing everyone to see the new features up close. Engineers Mikal Shorts and Chris Smith also talked about the new part numbering system and additional information that will now be on fabrication drawings. These changes will improve the quality and process flow!
