Fall can be such a fun time for families. The cooler temperatures give us opportunity to trade in the beach for trips to the apple orchard. Even very young children notice the differences that fall brings and can enjoy nature walks collecting leaves and acorns. If your family celebrates Halloween, please note our list of haunted houses and article on inexpensive but creative costumes for your family. When planning costumes and Halloween activities, please remember that not all children enjoy being scared. If you don’t celebrate, check out the cider mills and nature walks. October is ADHD awareness month. While Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most commonly diagnosed mental disorders of childhood, it is also surrounded by myths that may leave parents feeling shame and uncertainty. Please see our guide for basic facts about ADHD and parenting. Also, let’s stay healthy while enjoying all this fun! Remember to schedule your flu shot for yourself and your children. As we are going to start spending more time indoors, consider getting the Covid vaccine or booster if you have not already done so. Enjoy this beautiful season! – Beverly Weathington, LMSW
