From the Desk of the President
Greetings to all!
The swim season is upon us. We’ve passed our opening health department inspections and the pool is ready for opening! Who’s going to be the first one in the water when the opening whistle blows on Saturday, May 28th at 12:30? Please join us for opening fun and festivities as we host our Open House Weekends on May 28th – 29th and again the following weekend on June 4th – 5th. On Saturday afternoons for the Open House Weekends we’ll be serving free hot dogs and refreshments. Bring a friend and encourage them to join our facility.
A $75 referral reward is offered to all members who recruit a new member
. This referral reward is in addition to the
$55 discount new annual members receive, $75 discount for new shareholders
. Even previous annual members who purchase a new shareholder membership are entitled to the new member discount. This year you’ll notice we’ve updated our website and made renewing your membership online or joining much more convenient with our online applications and payment system. Visit

This summer, Fort Washington Pool is definitely the place to be! The focus is not only on
providing a great place to swim, but also to make it a place for affordable family fun all summer long
. We’re planning an assortment of fun filled socials throughout the season. A schedule of upcoming events and socials will be posted on our website and at the pool. Members with ideas for a social, or who want to help plan and conduct an event should contact Connie Freeman or May Robinson. We’re always looking for good volunteers.
This year’s preseason cleanup efforts were on the usual items; repairing the main pool’s white coat, patching and refinishing portions of the concrete deck, plumbing and electrical repairs, caulking areas around the two pools and general grounds cleanup. Without the efforts and leadership of Tim Leighton and Ray Rice, many of these more challenging facility maintenance items would be cost prohibitive to the pool’s financial health. Supporting them and taking on many of the more routine tasks were a number of wonderful volunteers who turned out on what seemed like never ending rainy Saturdays to get the facility prepped for opening. The dedication of these volunteers and owners who take pride in supporting and maintaining their pool is what has allowed FWPA to celebrate 45 years providing fun, healthy, recreation for families in the area. Without the help and support of our member/owners, none of this would be possible. Additionally, for those who make use of the picnic area by the waterfront, in the coming weeks we’ll be looking to expand the decking and picnic areas. I encourage all members to take advantage of this part of our facility. It’s our own private waterfront park and dock. The canoe and kayak racks make for convenient storing of small boats a breeze. Take a relaxing paddle around the calm waters of the cove. Bait your hook and drop a line in the water while you wait for a fish to bite. Sit back and enjoy the fantastic sunsets looking out over the water towards Mount Vernon. Share the best kept secret…the Fort Washington Pool and Beach Club.
Let’s make 2016 a banner year for the pool!

Swim Team - Shark Infestation Is About To Begin!
The Fort Washington Sharks Swim Team is set to begin another great season under the guidance of head coach Elvin Foreman. Registration is available online now at
www.fwst.swimtopia.com
and in person during the open house weekends. Swim team representatives will also be available to help order new swim suits for the team’s new uniform this year. Swim team practice will begin the evening of Tuesday, May 31st. After school practices will take place for all swimmers until June 20th, at which time we’ll change over to morning practices starting June 21st. Also after the Prince George’s County School year ends, Coach Chris will be holding evening practices for those swimmers who are unable to attend morning practices. The team is also happy to announce the hiring of a third coach, Dominique Banks. She specializes in stroke technique. She has over 17 years of experience in teaching children and adults of all ages and abilities to swim proficiently and, most importantly, love the sport. The Guppy program for children ages 5 and under will begin June 27th and run through July 15th. So Sharks, get those shark teeth sharpened and GOOOOOOOO SHARKS!

Membership Rewards
The Fort Washington Pool Board of Directors is happy to announce two ways for members to receive a partial dues rebate for this season.
Pre-Season Work Rebate Earn a $75 rebate for 10 hours of work done at the pool in preparing for opening day. We always have a considerable number of tasks that need to be completed prior to opening day such as general cleaning, beautification and maintenance and preparation for the pre-opening inspections by the Prince Georges County Health Department. Just come to the pool almost any Saturday morning, starting early April and lend a hand. We’ll send out e-mail reminders (don’t forget to sign in at the snack bar). Alternatively, you may propose a project of your own.
New Member Referral Earn a $75 rebate for each new pool membership that you ‘sell’. Just have them indicate on the application that they were referred by you. Lapsed members, those returning within 5 years of prior membership, are not considered ‘new’ members.
Rebate Policy – The Fort Washington Pool Board of Directors approves, individually, all rebate payments. Rebates will be voted upon at a routine business meeting after the start of the pool season. Rebates are available to members in good standing whose dues and fees are paid in full at the time the rebate is considered. Rebates offered by the Fort Washington Swim Team will be addressed and managed separately from those discussed above.
