Faculty, student authors publish paper on medical ethics

Two Heritage College faculty members and two medical students were authors of a paper published in the March 2019 AMA Journal of Ethics. The article, titled "Should Hospital Emergency Departments Be Used as Revenue Streams Despite Needs to Curb Overutilization?" was the work of
  • Alex Myers, D.O. ('19), a second lieutenant in the US Army;
  • Aaron Cain, a rising third-year medical student enrolled in the D.O./M.B.A. dual-degree program;
  • Berkeley Franz, Ph.D., assistant professor of community-based health and holder of the Heritage Endowed Career Development Faculty Fellowship in Population Health Science, Osteopathic Heritage Foundation Ralph S. Licklider, D.O., Research Endowment; and
  • Daniel Skinner, Ph.D., assistant professor of health policy and co-director of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine's Health Policy Fellowship.

ITDI kicks off new initiative for Ecuador
The Infectious and Tropical Disease Institute ( ITDI) at the Heritage College is launching a crowdfunding campaign to support a new initiative in its ongoing battle against Chagas disease in Ecuador. The Healthy Homes for Healthy Living project, which aims to build 61 new insect-resistant homes for Ecuadoran families, has participation from a number of academic programs at Ohio University, and will be officially announced during a trip to Ecuador by a university delegation June 23-30. The delegation will be led by OHIO Executive Vice President/Provost Chaden Djalali, Ph.D., and will include ITDI Director Mario Grijalva, Ph.D., who is leading the Healthy Homes initiative; Vice Provost for Global Affairs and International Studies Lorna Jean Edmonds, Ph.D.; and Scripps College of Communication Dean Scott Titsworth, Ph.D. Read more
