1:00 - 4:30 p.m. - Afternoon Seminar
7:30 p.m. Reading
Bethel Lutheran Church
17500 Burbank Blvd.  Encino

The Christian story, from Genesis until now, is fundamentally about people on the move - outgrowing old, broken religious systems and embracing new, more redemptive ways of life. It's time to move again.  In his new book,  The Great Spiritual Migration: How the World's Largest Religion is Seeking a Better Way to be Christian , Brian McLaren invites you to seize the moment and set out on the most significant spiritual pilgrimage of our time: to help Christianity become more Christian.

Join us for "An Afternoon with Brian McLaren," a leadership-oriented gathering for clergy and lay leaders hosted by  Bethel, Encino. This gathering will run from 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. and requires a ticket. Registration information is here. You can also call Pastor Rustin Comer at (818)788-2653.

At 7:30 p.m, join Bethel, Encino for Brian's reading from his new book,  The Great Spiritual Migration: How the World's Largest Religion Is Seeking a Better Way to Be Christian. There is no cost for the reading. Brian will be available to sign copies of his book, which you can purchase at the event.

The afternoon event is $99; the reading at 7:30 p.m. is free! Participants in the afternoon event will  receive the following:
  • Free downloads of exciting new music for your congregation from the Convergence Music Project.
  • A free download of Brian's Through-the-Bible podcast (a $25 value) and audio Bible Overview series (a $100 value).
  • Access to other free and discounted resources.
  • If you would like to come but can't afford the registration, just email  [email protected] for scholarship information.

Saturday October 8
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Danish Lutheran Church,
16881 Bastanchury Road
Yorba Linda

For many Lutheran adults, the last time they studied the Small Catechism was likely in confirmation class as a young teenager. Yet, the building blocks of our faith and practice are greatly shaped by this small book. The Rejoice Conference of the Pacifica Synod will be holding a day of theological education we are calling "Catechism Revisited" where we will spend time looking in-depth at the different parts of what make up our Lutheran faith. This year's presentation will focus on the Reformation.

As we approach the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation this year's presentation will look at the key historical and theological points of the Reformation as well as seeing how it is in force today. The Bishops of the Pacifica and Southwest California Synods  of the ELCA will provide us with a morning full of insight on the Reformation and its continuing impact. The c ost is $15.00, which includes coffee and pastry in the morning and lunch at noon.

Schedule:
